Exit news: West Ham chiefs accept offer for 22 y/o to leave London Stadium

West Ham United are set to allow one of their players to leave the club before the close of the transfer window, according to a new report.

The Hammers got their Premier League season underway over the weekend, but it wasn’t the start Julien Lopetegui would have hoped for, as they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa. They will be looking to put that right this weekend, as they play their first London derby of the season against Crystal Palace.

Given that West Ham brought in a new manager, it was no surprise to see how busy the club has been over the course of the last few months. Lopetegui has replaced David Moyes, and like any new manager, he will have wanted to make changes to the squad.

The Hammers board has backed him in that department, as the club has brought in eight new players over the course of this transfer window so far. There has been a lot of turnover at the club, as they have also let eight players leave, either due to contracts expiring or players just being sold.

The Hammers have bought a mix of experience and youth in this transfer window, as the club brought in Max Kilman from Wolves as well as the experienced heads of Guido Rodriguez and Wes Foderingham. But the standout additions will probably come in the form of Crysencio Summerville, who joined the club from Leeds United after an excellent campaign with the Yorkshire side last season, as he helped them finish in the play-off places. West Ham have also added German international striker Niclas Füllkrug to their ranks after his impressive performances for Borussia Dortmund and Germany.

Niclas Fullkrug for West Ham

Lopetegui improved his defence with the addition of Kilman, but he has gone on to improve it even more, as they have added Aaron Wan-Bissaka to their options in recent weeks after the full-back spent years with Manchester United, and they have also signed centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo on loan from Nice.

The club has been extremely busy with incomings, but West Ham’s focus may now be on what players they can let go before next week’s transfer deadline.

West Ham to let Luizao leave

According to Globo Esporte, relayed by Sport Witness, Brazilian side Corinthians have made an offer to sign Luizao, and West Ham have accepted it. That offer is believed to be a season-long loan deal, with both clubs said to be negotiating a future purchase option for the 22-year-old.

As well as looking to agree on a future buy option, West Ham also wants to add a future sale fee, and these details are expected to be reached. It has been previously claimed that Luizao wanted to revive his career under Lopetegui after failing to appear under Moyes, but that doesn’t look to be the case, as the player’s representatives are said to have encouraged a transfer.

Luizao for Sao Paulo.

Luizao joined the Hammers in January 2023 on a free transfer but has spent the last 18 months playing for the club’s under-21s, failing to make a single senior appearance, and it looks as if he is on course to leave the London Stadium on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Mikel Arteta really wants Arsenal to sign £203,000-a-week Real Madrid star

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly "crazy" about signing a Real Madrid star, and one who is absolutely pivotal at the Bernabeu.

Mikel Arteta signs new three-year deal at Arsenal

The Gunners boss, in some fantastic news for the club and its supporters, committed his long-term future in north London by putting pen to paper on fresh terms this week.

Arteta signed a new three-year deal at Arsenal – which was announced on Thursday – and his fresh terms have put the Spaniard in line with the Premier League's highest-earning managers like Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

Arteta is now rumoured to be earning £288,000-per-week at the Emirates Stadium, coming as just reward for a tactician who's played such an instrumental role in transforming Arsenal back into an elite English side.

“We are really happy that Mikel has signed a new long-term contract," said sporting director Edu Gaspar to Arsenal's official website.

"It’s a very positive and proud moment for everyone at the club and an important part of what we’re all working towards.

“Mikel has shown his qualities since the very first day he joined us, not only as a football manager, but as a person with wonderful values. We have a strong belief in what we are doing and what we want to achieve together. Mikel’s new contract gives us stability and clear direction as we aim for new heights.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta

Arteta's original deal was set to expire next year, so there will be a real sense of relief that Arsenal are keeping hold of their head coach until 2027. After that news, Edu and Arteta can also continue their work on transfer planning for the future without any distractions.

Whilst their looming North London Derby on Sunday takes precedent right now, alongside their trips to Atalanta and Man City next week, Arsenal are already making a head start on potential incomings for 2025.

Indeed, it is believed Arsenal have already been in contact over Benjamin Sesko, as they look to move ahead of contenders for his signature next summer. Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies is also a target for Arsenal, as the Canadian left-back can agree pre-contract terms in January ahead of a zero-cost switch later in 2025.

Arteta really wants Arsenal to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid

According to Spanish news outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni is on their radar as well.

It is believed that Arteta is "crazy" about signing Tchouameni for Arsenal, and Defensa boldly claims that they wouldn't refuse letting William Saliba go to Madrid if it meant striking a deal for the France international.

aurelien-tchouameni-real-madrid-manchester-united-transfer-gossip-ten-hag-casemiro

The £203,000-per-week midfielder has started all four of their opening La Liga games this season, averaging an impressive match rating of around 7.27 according to WhoScored. Tchouameni has starred under Carlo Ancelotti since joining Real from Monaco for an initial £68 million in 2022, amassing 36 international caps for Les Bleus in that time.

Taking this into account, it would be a very difficult move for Edu and Arteta to pull off, despite the Premier League's big pull.

“Listen, Tchouameni is a young kid, he’s going to make mistakes but he’s a superb talent, he produces moments out of nowhere, incredible player," said pundit Rio Ferdinand during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“Replacing Pogba in a France XI is not an easy task, but so far, Tchouaméni has been superb.

“Tchouameni showed why he plays for Real Madrid. He has the patience, talent, control, he has everything you need.”

Farke could land his own Raphinha in Leeds swoop for "electric" wizard

Leeds United have less than two weeks to make additions to their squad before the summer transfer window officially slams shut on Friday night of next week.

The Whites have added back-up goalkeeper Alex Cairns, central defender Joe Rodon, midfielder Joe Rothwell, and right-back Jayden Bogle to their squad so far.

Meanwhile, Charlie Cresswell, Glen Kamara, Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Georginio Rutter – who is set to join Brighton for £40m – have moved on, or are about to move.

In the 2023/24 Championship campaign, Summerville produced 19 goals and nine assists and Rutter racked up six goals and 15 assists for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Georginio Rutter

They made a huge impact in the final third for Leeds in their pursuit of promotion from the second tier, and the club have yet to replace that in the transfer market.

The Whites have not added a single new winger, attacking midfielder, or striker to the squad to make up for the goals and assists they have lost/are about to lose.

However, there is still time left in the window for the 49ers and Daniel Farke to pull something out of the bag and they have recently been linked with a Championship operator who could be the German's own Raphinha.

Raphinha's brilliance with Leeds

Firstly, it is worth remembering just how brilliant the Brazilian magician was for the club during his two-year spell at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch.

Former sporting director Victor Orta moved to sign the young winger from Rennes ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, following the team's promotion from the Championship, and he made an instant impact in Yorkshire.

Raphinha was a constant threat at the top end of the pitch and got supporters off their seats with his exciting and direct play down the right flank, cutting in on his left foot to devastating effect.

As you can see in the table above, the left-footed star provided Bielsa's side with quality as both a scorer and a creator of goals in his debut Premier League season.

The Brazil international ranked within the top 1% of midfielders in the division for Expected Assisted Goals per 90 (0.30) and assists per 90 (0.34), which shows that he was one of the best in his position when it came to creating high-quality opportunities for his teammates.

Raphinha followed that up with 11 goals, ten 'big chances' created, and three assists in 35 Premier League outings during the 2021/22 campaign, which started with Bielsa in charge and ended with Marsch in the dugout.

The now-27-year-old ranked within the top 6% of midfielders in the top-flight for Expected Assisted Goals per 90 (0.28), and the top 7% for shot-creating actions per 90 (4.20).

These statistics show that the former Leeds star was an exceptional creative threat for the club in the Premier League in his two years in England, before his move to Barcelona in 2022.

Farke could now land his own version of the Brazilian sensation by dipping into the market to sign one of the team's reported transfer targets this month.

Leeds' interest in Championship wizard

It was recently reported by Daily Express journalist Charlie Gordon that Leeds are one of a number of teams interested in signing Burnley forward Manuel Benson.

The reporter claimed that Sunderland and Norwich City, who are also set to compete for promotion in the Championship, hold a 'concrete' interest in the winger, alongside the Whites.

Gordon stated that the 27-year-old attacker wants to be playing regular games this season and a move away from Turf Moor could allow him to do that.

Manuel Benson

Benson has been an unused substitute in Burnley's first two matches of the campaign, a 4-1 win over Luton and a 5-0 thumping of Cardiff, and appears to be out of favour under Scott Parker.

This could open up the door for Leeds, or Sunderland or Norwich, to swoop in and rescue the £25k-per-week wizard from the recently relegated side before the window slams shut.

However, it remains to be seen whether Burnley would be willing to allow him to leave on a permanent basis or if they would be prepared to loan him out.

Why Leeds should sign Manuel Benson

The Whites should swoop to sign Benson because his performances for the Clarets under Vincent Kompany in their last promotion-winning campaign suggest that he has the potential to be Farke's own Championship version of Raphinha.

Like the Brazil international, the 27-year-old wizard is a left-footed winger who is typically deployed down the right flank, and looks to cut in on his favoured foot to make things happen at the top end of the pitch.

However, it is worth noting that the attacker has endured a difficult 12 months or so. He only made eight appearances and one start in the Premier League last season and is yet to feature in a competitive match this term.

This means that it could take time for Benson to find his feet and form again at Leeds, if they sign him, and patience will be required. That patience could be greatly rewarded, though, if he can recapture the form he showed in the 2022/23 campaign.

As you can see in the table above, the Angola international produced 15 direct goal contributions in 33 Championship outings, despite only starting 14 times as Burnley won the title.

He ranked within the top 6% of attacking midfielders in the division for Expected Assisted Goals per 90 (0.25) but only the top 27% for assists per 90 (0.18), which suggests that his teammates let him down with their wasteful finishing.

Benson, who was described as "electric" by EFL pundit Sam Parkin, also ranked within the top 1% of his positional peers for non-penalty goals per 90 (0.66).

These statistics show that Leeds could sign a player with the potential to be one of the best wingers in the division at scoring and creating goals, which is why the left-footed right winger could be Farke's own version of Raphinha.

Virat Kohli: 'I tried to do what I can but Kishan took the game away completely'

It takes a lot to overshadow Virat Kohli in the middle. In Test matches, India’s No. 3s have to endure the long walk back to rampant cheers not for the work they did but for the fact the captain was coming to the middle to take control. So what chance did a debutant have? Apparently a really, really good one.Ishan Kishan, who has been talked about as a talent ever since his age-group days, but who used to have problems with knowing when to attack and when to defend, and issues with the discipline it takes to be a cricketer at the top level, walked out under lights in Ahmedabad and announced himself with a 28-ball fifty that knocked the stuffing out of England’s bowling attack.”Special mention to Ishan, the way he batted,” Kohli said at the presentation. “Changed the game completely. We were one down for nothing. I tried to do what I can but then he totally took the game away from the opposition. Kept following his instinct. Quality batting on debut.”Trusting a game he honed under the strict guidance of four-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians, Kishan refused to take a backwards step, and that ensured India did not lose any momentum after an excellent bowling performance. When he finally fell for 56 off 32 balls, with five fours and four sixes, the prospect of the series-levelling up at 1-1 was merely a formality.”When you play in the IPL with such dominance like he has, against quality bowlers, we’ve seen him hit international fast bowlers for big sixes,” Kohli said. “He’s a fearless character. He should continue to back his instincts. We had a conversation out in the middle where he understood and analysed the game very smartly. He knew he was hitting the ball well so he kept taking his chances. But he was calculated. He wasn’t reckless. And that’s what you want to see in youngsters. Coming in, looking composed, still backing themselves but being aware of what the situation of the game is and I think today that counterattacking innings of his and our partnership [94 runs off 54 balls] was something that the team needed and he provided that for the team.”Ishan Kishan gets a pat from Virat Kohli after one of his monster hits•BCCI

Kohli was equally effusive about the work his bowlers had done to restrict a power-packed England batting line-up to only 164. Washington Sundar continued to show that big turn isn’t necessary to pose a threat as a spinner if you have the smarts to know where the batsman hates having the ball and the control to keep nailing that spot. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, returning from a long injury lay-off in this series, was captivating at the death once more. Shardul Thakur, also shouldering the responsibility of bowling the end overs, nabbed the wickets of Eoin Morgan in the 18th over and Ben Stokes in the 20th.”We ticked all the boxes we wanted to. Especially in the first innings with the ball. They were 100 at the end of 12 overs; 130 at the end of 15 and to give away only 34 in the last five, I think it was very smart bowing by all our bowlers. Special mention to Washi. He bowled to only one left-hander in the middle and to all right-handers, he used the big boundary really well, changed pace. But then Bhuvi, smart operator. Shardul bowled well at the end. Hardik chipped in with a few. Chahal was good today as well. All in all very very happy with our bowling effort and then with the bat as well. Convincing finish.”The return of Pandya to the bowling crease was a particularly promising sign for the team as they prepare for the T20 World Cup in October. India have been very careful with their allrounder considering his history with back injuries, the latest of which required an operation to fix. Since September 2019, Pandya has bowled only eight overs across all forms of cricket, but that may very well be about to change.”I have to give credit to him for the fact that he’s bowling at least three [overs] for us in games now,” Kohli said. “He’s worked really hard on his fitness and for the next six to eight months, he’s promised and committed to the fact that he’s going to give everything that he has and be that allrounder for us who features in all three formats probably. He’s going to be a vital part of this team moving forward. He’s put in a lot of work to arrive at this place. Now it’s all about managing his workload and keeping him fit and ready to bowl whenever the team wants and his intent is of no doubt. He plays for the team at all times and these kinds of players are priceless.”

Imagine him & Igamane: Rangers eyeing bid for "clinical" £3m star

Glasgow Rangers only have a couple of weeks left to prepare for their first game of the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season, which kicks off next month.

The Ibrox giants are looking to end a run of three years without a title to show for their efforts in the top-flight, as their rivals have won the last three trophies.

Philippe Clement and head of recruitment Nils Koppen have put in plenty of work during the summer transfer window so far in an attempt to build a squad at Rangers that is ready to compete.

Jon McLaughlin, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, and Borna Barisic were all allowed to depart as free agents at the end of May, when their contracts in Glasgow came to an end.

Borna Barisic

The Gers have also moved to bring in a host of new signings. Hamza Igamane, Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Mohammed Diomande, Clinton Nsiala, Liam Kelly, and Connor Barron have all come through the door to bolster the manager's options across the park.

However, Rangers do not appear to be done there, yet, in the transfer window as they are reportedly eyeing up a star from the Premiership before the deadline passes at the end of next month.

Rangers interested in Premiership marksman

According to the Daily Record, the Scottish giants have reignited their interest in Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland as they look to improve their attacking options.

The report claims that the Gers did consider a swoop to sign the Scotland international in the January transfer window earlier this year, only for Clement to put a stop to it.

It states that the Belgian boss has now changed his mind on the situation and is interested in a deal to snap up the impressive centre-forward this summer.

The outlet adds that Clement is now considering a bid to sign the Hearts star to see if it is possible to tempt him away from Tynecastle over the coming weeks.

Daily Record also reveals that it could take a bid of around £3m to convince the Jam Tarts to part ways with Shankland, despite him now being in the final 12 months of his contract.

He could speak with teams to agree a pre-contract deal from January onwards but that does not seem likely to stop Hearts from demanding a sizeable fee for his services.

If Clement and Rangers can get a deal over the line for Shankland before the end of the window then they could land a dream partner for new signing Igamane, as he would have the perfect role model at Ibrox.

Hamza Igamane's Rangers potential

The Gers swooped to sign the young forward from Moroccan outfit FAR Rabat on a permanent move earlier this summer and he comes in as a prospect with potential.

Igamane is only 21 and has yet to play a competitive game, at club level, outside of his home country in Morocco, which means that it could take some time for him to adapt to Scottish football and supporters should not expect him to hit the ground running as a star for the Gers.

He has spent the majority of his career so far as a centre-forward but, due to the reasons outlined, it may be too much to ask him to come in and immediately lead the line for the Light Blues.

Igamane has also operated on the wings at time and his form from the 2023/24 campaign suggests that he has the attributes to potentially be successful on the right flank for Rangers.

As you can see in the table above, the 21-year-old ace is not currently the most prolific forward but is excellent when it comes to dribbling past opposition players, completing a high percentage of his attempted dribbles and completing more than one per game on average.

This suggests that Igamane could be suited to a right-wing position for the Gers as he could use his speed and dribbling ability to burst past defenders to then score for himself or create chances for his teammates in the final third.

Why Shankland would be perfect for Igamane

Firstly, Shankland could benefit from the young forward's creative and direct play down the flank as it could result in him having plenty of chnaces to find the back of the net.

Secondly, the Scottish marksman is a proven Premiership performer who could act as a mentor for Igamane over the years to come, to mould him into his own successor for the future.

Shankland would not come in with much to prove in the Scottish top-flight due to his return of 55 goals and 14 assists in 120 appearances in the division.

As you can see in the table above, the 28-year-old star is coming off the back of an outstanding season in the Premiership, in which he scored an incredible 24 goals in 37 outings.

This shows that the Hearts skipper knows exactly what it takes to be a consistent goalscorer at that level and that he has the quality to do it, with only nine 'big chances' missed to go along with his 24 strikes.

These statistics indicate that Shankland would come in as a lethal centre-forward for Rangers who could hit the ground running due to his proven Premiership quality.

The experienced Scotsman, who was once hailed as "clinical" by journalist Euan Robertson, could be the perfect mentor for Igamane due to his knowledge of Scottish football and his evident finishing quality.

The Morocco U23 international could learn from playing and training alongside Shankland over the years to come, whilst also potentially striking up a working relationship with him on the pitch as a winger.

Bad news for Hagi: Rangers could land £1m dream Danilo partner

Philippe Clement won't just be making sure Glasgow Rangers sign the correct players during the summer transfer window as he will also be looking to move on those who could fetch the Ibrox side a decent transfer fee.

Players such as Sam Lammers – who shone for FC Utrecht during his six-month loan spell – could bring in much-needed funds for the Light Blues in a bid to help Clement bring in plenty of reinforcements ahead of next season.

Might it be another player who spent time out on loan last term that could be moving away from Ibrox this summer? As Ianis Hagi has delivered an update on his future recently…

Ianis Hagi’s future at Rangers is uncertain

The Romanian playmaker – who will be playing in Euro 2024 for his national side – spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at La Liga side Alaves in a bid to secure regular gametime, which wasn’t promised to him by former coach Michael Beale.

The 25-year-old may have featured 28 times for the club, yet he managed to score just two goals while chipping in with another two assists, having to rely on opportunities from the bench in order to try and make his mark.

Last week, Hagi delivered an update on his future, and it looks likely that he could leave Glasgow this summer. He said: "My focus is on the Euros. I had talks with my agents and the pressure is on them.

"They know what I want for my future, it's a pretty important summer for me from all points of view. I told them before going to the national team what I wanted.

"I expect them to work as well as possible, to find the right team and the right manager for me. I can't say if I'll be at Rangers or somewhere else. My future depends on my agents."

This surely all but confirms that he will be on the lookout for a new team once he returns from the Euros, marking an end to four and a half years at Rangers.

During that time, the Romanian gem has made 99 appearances for the Gers, scoring 16 times and registering 21 assists, playing a major part in the title success during the 2020/21 campaign.

The serious knee injury he suffered against Stirling Albion in a Scottish Cup tie in 2022 looks like the moment which derailed the progress he had made at the club, spending nearly a full year on the sidelines.

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi.

On his day, Hagi is a tremendous playmaker who can feature as a number ten or even out wide if required. With Clement seeking his own transfer targets, selling the 25-year-old could allow the club to secure a decent fee this summer.

Might the Belgian even have an ideal replacement for Hagi available at a fraction of the price?

Rangers plot move for Mexican international

News emerged last week of interest by Rangers in Mexican midfielder Andres Montano as Clement sought to bolster his midfield options ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Despite having only two years left on his contract, the current Mazatlan gem is valued at a very respectable £1m, which could entice Clement to make a move this summer.

It is refreshing that the club are targeting players from different markets, especially if they can impress in Scotland and secure the Ibrox side a stunning profit in a few years.

With Hagi seemingly on the move, could Montano be the ideal replacement for him?

What Andres Montano could offer Rangers

The Mexican is much more flexible than Hagi, being able to operate as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder, showcasing a plethora of skills during his spell in his homeland.

Indeed, it is perhaps as the number ten that Montano – who has been hailed as a "goal threat" and a "good creator" by Rangers Journal's Kai Watson – has shown the most promise, as he can demonstrate his excellent attacking abilities.

He has scored three goals in that position in 11 games and his creativity could get Danilo firing next season.

The Brazilian joined from Feyenoord last summer yet managed only 21 games and six goals before suffering a season-ending injury against Hearts just prior to Christmas.

Having a player such as Montano operating behind him could give Danilo many more chances in front of goal next season, as there is no doubting his ability in the final third.

Across 17 games in the Liga MX Clausura, Montano has created four big chances, averaged two key passes per game while also succeeding with 1.8 dribbles per game – a success rate of 70% – which is further evidence of how influential he is in the opposition third.

Rangers could be set to tap into the South American market for a player

ByRoss Kilvington Jun 8, 2024

These statistics clearly show that the Mexican thrives when being played in a more advanced role and this could only benefit the likes of Danilo, who crave easy chances presented to them by the midfield or wingers.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig praised the midfielder a few weeks ago, stating that he is a “roaming playmaker” along with listing the likes of “technique, versatility and work rate” as some of his main strengths.

Hagi could turn a game on its head with a moment of magic, but there were plenty of games in which he was anonymous, struggling to really get involved with the play and letting things pass him by.

Montano seems a lot more involved, especially with his positional adaptability, which requires him to drop deeper when his club don’t have the ball, so he can contribute defensively.

Could this mean the Mexican international is a more exciting player than Hagi? That much remains to be seen until he makes a move to Scotland, but first thoughts are that he could be an ideal addition to the first-team squad this summer.

There are bargains to be found in countries such as Mexico, and it appears as though this is an area, along with South America, which Clement and Nils Koppen are actively looking at for future talent.

The next few weeks will certainly be exciting, especially if another one or two players join the club.
