Liverpool are "particularly" interested in signing a "world-class" player in the summer transfer window, even tabling an offer for him, according to a new update.

The Reds have been linked with numerous potential signings of late, as they look to add fresh faces to an already strong squad for the incoming manager this summer.

Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is reportedly wanted by Liverpool, with the Dutchman publicly admitting he wants to seal a move away from the Serie A side at the end of the season. Xabi Alonso is believed to be an admirer of his, meaning he could target him if the Spaniard replaces Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

A centre-back is also on the cards for the Merseysiders, especially with Joel Matip expected to move on once his contract expires in the summer, and Juve defender Gleison Bremer has reportedly been offered to them, as well as other Premier League clubs.

Perhaps the most exciting recent rumour has been the one linking Real Madrid star Rodrygo with a move to Liverpool in the summer window, as the Reds look to make an audacious swoop for arguably one of Europe's best young attacking players. The La Liga side are not entertaining the idea of allowing him to leave at the moment, but it seems FSG and Edwards are keen to add to the attacking ranks.

According to journalist Fabio Santini [via Paisley Gates], Liverpool have tabled an offer for Federico Chiesa, showing genuine interest in signing the Juventus attacker this summer:

Chiesa is no stranger to interest from Liverpool, with the Reds seen as contenders to sign him for some time now, and it is easy to see why they are admirers.

The 26-year-old played a big role in Italy winning Euro 2020, scoring twice in the competition, and he has also accumulated a total of 86 goal contributions (45 goals and 41 assists) in 226 appearances in Serie A, which has been achieved through impressive spells at both Fiorentina and Juve. Meanwhile, Alessandro Pierini is so impressed that he has called him "world-class" in the past.

Admittedly, Liverpool look extremely well-stocked in attack currently, with other positions more important to strengthen in, but Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz are the only genuine wide players – Ben Doak is a long-term prospect – so Chiesa could provide great competition on either flank.

The glory days of Manchester United are in the past, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be desperate to turn his club into a European giant once again.

2013 was the year when the Red Devils last won the Premier League, with the last decade being filled with disappointment and frustration.

However, just like throughout the history of United, the current crop does have some quality players, but one position that’s not been quite as elite is at centre half.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at what a Man United legend like Rio Ferdinand would have cost the club today.

As you can see, the number five would be by far the biggest signing by Man United if he joined in the modern day, more than doubling the fee it cost to bring Harry Maguire to the club from Leicester City.

However, Erik ten Hag’s team could do with the exact profile of Ferdinand, who would be the perfect partner for Lisandro Martinez, and it’s fair to say that if the former Red was on the market in 2024, the club would be eyeing him up this summer.

Over his 12 years at United, Ferdinand made 455 appearances for the Red Devils, winning 15 trophies in the process, including six Premier Leagues, which certainly proves that he was worth every single penny.

Southampton, after finishing bottom of the Premier League last season in a disastrous campaign overall, have a real chance of an immediate return back to the top flight this season.

Although their chances at finishing in the top two look rather far-fetched now, with Leeds United pulling away from the Saints amidst a poor run of form for Southampton, Russell Martin won't be fazed by his side potentially entering into the lottery of the playoffs with the immense quality at his disposal on the South Coast.

The likes of Adam Armstrong, Flynn Downes and many others for Martin's men have stood out in the drop-down to the second tier, with the ex-Newcastle United striker in particular taking the Championship by storm with 18 goals fired in from 36 appearances.

Despite so many of the current Saints camp excelling and getting supporters at St. Mary's out of their seats with enthralling displays, there is no doubt still some lingering regret from a Southampton perspective about how things ended up with this dud when he was sold on nearly three years ago in 2021.

Mario Lemina's time at Southampton

Southampton would break the bank to land Mario Lemina in 2017, going above and beyond to sign the ex-Juventus central midfielder by forking out a club-record fee that rose to £18m.

The deal at the time was viewed as a coup from the Saints, with then Southampton vice-chairman Les Reed labelling their new Gabonese recruit as "outstanding."

However, much like other bodies through the door in that summer transfer window and later in January – with Wesley Hoedt and Guido Carillo never really settling at St. Mary's in other major flops – Lemina would struggle to ever really show why the Saints splashed significant amounts of money to land him.

Even on his Premier League debut, Lemina would last just 65 minutes before James Ward-Prowse would come on in his place – the ex-Southampton midfield icon coincidentally joining the Hammers last year after stealing Lemina's thunder against them.

The former Juventus man would go on to make 52 appearances for Southampton over two forgettable seasons, before leaving the South Coast outfit behind for the luxuries of France in OGC Nice.

Southampton would make a disastrous loss on their one-time record-breaking signing, but would have probably been thankful just to have him off their books after two loan spells out at Galatasaray and Fulham illustrated Lemina's lack of desire to stay put with the Saints and fight it out for his spot.

According to Football Transfers, the Ligue 1 side would manage to swoop in and sign the Saints dud for a reduced fee of €5.5m (£4.7m) which was a far cry away from the extortionate £18m once needed to acquire the Gabonese midfielder from a Southampton point of view.

To the 6-foot holding midfielder's credit, he has managed to turn around his stuttering career since which started when relocating to France after waving goodbye to St. Mary's.

Mario Lemina's redemption after Southampton

Lemina would slot straight into the Nice set-up seamlessly after a stop-start time in England, making 32 appearances in his first season in Ligue 1 and bagging two goals along the way.

One of those efforts would be a sweetly struck first-time shot finding the back of the net against RC Lens to help his new employers win 2-1, Lemina loving his football again in an eclectic Nice set-up that saw him line up alongside faces such as Kasper Dolberg and Justin Kluivert to name but a few.

That would catch the eye of Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, who would be successful in their approach for the ex-Saints flop in January last year with a bid of €11m (£9.4m) enough to tempt Nice into parting ways with their redeemed star-man.

Lemina would join the Wolves ranks mid-way through the 2022/23 campaign, with his importance to the cause at Molineux only elevated at the end of this season when the likes of Ruben Neves in holding midfield exited amidst widespread change at the club.

Now, Lemina is a true midfield machine in the West Midlands under Gary O'Neil with any demons from his Southampton move not working out very much now just an after-thought.

Mario Lemina's time at Wolves

Described as being an "unbelievable" footballer by football scout Umir early into his Wolves career, Lemina is arguably one of the first names on O'Neil's teamsheet now when he ponders his Old Gold starting lineups.

The former Saints midfielder has made an appearance in 25 of Wolves' 28 games this campaign in the league, with Lemina's team punching above their weight in the Premier League sitting pretty in ninth spot.

The imposing presence of Lemina in the middle of the park has enabled Wolves to dream big, the Old Gold number five maturing into a resilient defensive option for his West Midlands employers on top of being a reliable source of goals.

This campaign alone, in all competitions, Lemina has more than doubled his paltry Southampton goal tally of two with five next to his name.

The midfielder ended up netting in back-to-back games last December as Wolves picked up two wins in a row against Chelsea and Brentford, heading home against the Blues to make it 1-0 on Christmas Eve during that mini purple patch.

Lemina will just be grateful that he has managed to find his stride in English football with Wolves, after a rocky time of it on the South Coast had left many doubting his star quality.

The vital cog in the Wolves machine could well be reminded of his past Southampton connections head on next season though, if Martin's men end up jumping back up into the promised land of the Premier League at the first try.

  According to, Bayern looked into signing Yamal when he was just 14 years old and he was deemed a 'top' target at the time. Former Munich bosses Hasan Salihamidzic and Marco Neppe were keen to bring him to the Allianz Arena and viewed him as a prospect with Ballon d'Or potential. However, the winger saw no reason to leave Barca.

  Yamal is currently impressing for Spain at Euro 2024, despite only being 16 still. Alongside starting both games against Italy and Croatia, he has been seen completing his homework in the dressing room. He provided five goals and eights assists in his 37 appearances for Barcelona in the top flight of Spanish football last season.

Leeds United turn their attention back to the Championship this afternoon as they prepare to host Rotherham at Elland Road after their FA Cup win during the week.

The Whites secured a meeting with Premier League side Chelsea in the next round of the competition with a 4-1 win over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

They now return to Yorkshire for a clash with the Millers, who are rooted to the bottom of the table with three wins to their name, as they look to build on their five successive victories in the division.

Daniel Farke could now look to make some alterations to the starting XI that was selected against Plymouth, as a number of role players were provided an opportunity to impress, and one player who should be unleashed is Crysencio Summerville.

Jaidon Anthony started the match on the left wing and had a solid, albeit unspectacular, display but should move over to allow one of the club's star men to return.

The 24-year-old attacker played 82 minutes of action against Plymouth on Tuesday night and was unable to register a goal or an assist for his team.

However, the Bournemouth loanee did create four chances for his teammates, albeit zero 'big chances', and completed 100% (2/2) of his attempted dribbles.

This shows that there were some promising signs from the English whiz, who could be a decent option to bring off the bench this afternoon.

Anthony has produced one goal and zero assists in 21 Championship appearances, two of which came as a starter, since his move to Yorkshire last summer.

He has been unfortunate in the sense that Summerville has been in extraordinary form this season in his position, which is why the Dutch winger should replace him for this clash with Rotherham.

Farek could terrify the Millers by unleashing the former Feyenoord youngster ahead of Anthony as they have conceded the most goals (54) in the division and he has the quality to potentially make light work of their defence.

Summerville has been one of the best wingers in the Championship so far this season with his ability to provide a constant threat as a scorer and a creator of goals.

Therefore, Farke could terrify Rotherham by unleashing his electric £16k-per-week sensation from the start to wreak havoc on the shaky Millers defence.
