Klopp really wants Adeyemi at Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ‘really wants’ Karim Adeyemi to join his squad as negotiations with RB Salzburg are ongoing, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

The Lowdown: Sizzling Salzburg Striker

Adeyemi, 19, has caught the eye of some of the best clubs in Europe with his terrific record at Red Bull Salzburg, with the Germany international scoring 21 goals in 66 appearances, assisting 17 also.

The striker has come on leaps and bounds since making his debut and is now the Austrian club’s main man up-front following the departure of Patson Daka to Leicester City last summer.

With the striker showing his worth in the Champions League this season, the chances of a move elsewhere next summer will increase as his performances continue to stand out.

The Latest: Klopp keen on Adeyemi

According to Konur on Twitter, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp really wants to sign Adeyemi and talks between the two clubs are continuing on financial issues.

Konur also stated that Adeyemi wants to play in the top-level leagues and prove himself, following in the footsteps of Erling Haaland, who now plays for Borussia Dortmund.

Germany head coach Hansi Flick labelled Adeyemi ‘ice-cold’ after the teenager scored on his national debut.

The Verdict: Future move

The signing of Adeyemi would fill the hole that Liverpool have missing in the middle of their front three. With Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota alternating in that role, they lack an out-and-out striker, offering Klopp the chance to rest and rotate his key forwards.

Only 19, the German striker has years to grow and adapt to English football, but his track record in front of goal demonstrates his ability.

Whilst Daka has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, Haaland’s record at Dortmund since joining has placed him as one of the best strikers around and Adeyemi will be hoping to replicate the Norway international’s rise.

Romano drops big Arsenal transfer claim

Fabrizio Romano has dropped an exciting Arsenal transfer claim which will leave fans buzzing.

What’s the story?

Mikel Arteta’s side endured a nightmare start to the Premier League season on Friday night as they lost 2-0 to newly-promoted Brentford.

However, Romano has now delivered a transfer update which should raise optimism levels at the Emirates Stadium.

Writing on Twitter, the journalist revealed: “Arsenal are prepared to make a bid to sign Martin Ødegaard on a permanent deal. He’s always been Edu and Arteta’s priority as number 10. #AFC Once Real Madrid gives the green light, Arsenal will submit the proposal. Aouar, also in the list. Maddison, never been close.”

In a follow-up tweet, he added: “Martin Ødegaard would love to re-join Arsenal. He was really happy during his loan spell last season and he’s waiting for Arsenal bid to be accepted by Real Madrid, once the green light arrives. #AFC Ødegaard has a great relationship with Arteta and board members too.”

Fans will be buzzing

While some Arsenal fans may have been enamoured by potentially signing Leicester City star James Maddison, bringing in Odegaard would be a significant step to ensuring they strengthen their creative options in the number ten position.

As per WhoScored, despite only coming in on loan in the January transfer window from Real Madrid, Odegaard averaged 1.4 key passes per game in the Premier League, which was the joint-highest of any Arsenal player.

Emile Smith Rowe was left to carry the Gunners on his back against the Bees on Friday night, and it was all too clear that the young starlet desperately needs support.

It’s exactly why Romano’s claim that Arsenal are now prepared to make an official bid to sign Odegaard, and that crucially, the Norway international is very much keen on a move to the Emirates, will likely leave the club’s fans buzzing.

Meanwhile, David Ornstein dropped an Arsenal update on Lautaro Martinez…

Kalvin Phillips tipped to leave Leeds

Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips could be ‘tempted’ by a summer move to Liverpool or Manchester United, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Lowdown: Phillips linked with Leeds’ rivals

The 25-year-old’s reputation has grown hugely in the last year or so, with the wider footballing public realising what Whites fans have known for a long time. He was the squad’s fifth-best performer last season as per WhoScored, an indication of his importance to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Phillips has also become a key player for England, being nearly ever-present in their run to the Euro 2020 final, and he has been linked with joining both Liverpool and Manchester United in recent times.

The midfielder’s current Leeds deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2024, however, so a huge bid would likely be required to prise him away from Elland Road.

The Latest: Journalist claims exit could happen

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown believes that Phillips’ head could be turned by one of the two Premier League heavyweights in order to reach another level in his career.

He told the publication: “I could see him being tempted by a move to one of those clubs.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-25/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Future up in the air

It is tough to predict what will happen with Phillips, but hard as it may be to accept, it would be difficult to begrudge him a move away next summer. Indeed, Eurosport reported last month that the club were struggling to agree a new deal for the 25-year-old, who is seeking reassurances that the Whites can be competitive at Premier League level.

Leeds are languishing near the relegation zone but the England international is someone who deserves to be playing at the very top level, testing himself against Europe’s best midfielders in the Champions League. He is England’s reigning Player of the Year, after all.

From a Whites perspective, it would clearly be fantastic if Phillips pledges his long-term future to the club, but as Brown has hinted, the midfielder may feel that a fresh challenge needs to come his way.

Rangers: Is this GVB’s next van Persie?

As Rangers headed into the international break they will have done so with glee as the Gers sat top of the league with everything appearing to be rather rosy at Ibrox.

There was a Scottish League Cup semi-final to prepare for and Steven Gerrard will have been confident about Rangers making the final.

However, he is no longer in Glasgow. The Gers have lost their title-winning head coach to south of the border and instead of a straightforward break, they had to work harder than ever to replace him.

The new boss is well known at Ibrox and brings with him a CV that eclipses that of Gerrard.

On Thursday afternoon, it was confirmed that Dutch coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst would become the 17th permanent manager of the club.

He has won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord in what stands out as his proudest achievement to date as a manager. However, his expertise guided the Netherlands-based side to two cup triumphs too.

The 46-year-old will also bring with him an experience of managing some of the finest players to grace European football. That list includes Liverpool hero Dirk Kuyt and Premier League winner Robin van Persie.

The former Arsenal star was a revelation under van Bronckhorst’s watchful eyes, bagging 25 times in 45 matches under the new Rangers manager’s tutelage.

Of course, it is hard to compare van Persie to anybody in the Gers squad but their head coach will undoubtedly require somebody who can fire in the goals on a regular basis.

Ryan Kent will, of course, be vital to retaining their Premiership crown but Alfredo Morelos will also need to start firing.

El Bufalo has been out of form this term with just four league strikes but it surely won’t be long before he becomes his ruthless self again.

The £33k-per-week earner may see a new manager as the perfect opportunity and if he starts scoring regularly again, he will become van Bronckhorst’s next van Persie in Scotland.

Morelos has been consistently linked with a move away from Glasgow but ahead of the January window, Ross Wilson and co must ensure he stays put.

He is a man capable of carrying them to the title and if we consider his goal record, it becomes clear why he’s being mentioned in the same breath as one of the Netherland’s great modern centre-forwards.

The dominant Colombian forward has beaten the goalkeeper on 101 occasions since arriving at Rangers and his iconic playstyle has earned some eye-catching appraisals.

“He was like a jungle cat who hadn’t been trained,” former coach Carlos Restrepo said of his youth days.

“He has a body type like an ox,” Restrepo added in an interview with The Athletic.

Van Persie was more technical than physical, something Morelos typifies, but their goalscoring records certainly match up.

Van Bronckhorst will surely relish the opportunity to coach him each day.

West Ham launch Umbro third kit

Many West Ham United fans have been left buzzing over the emergence of their new Umbro third kit.

The London Stadium faithful launched an announcement video on their official Twitter page, with players like Angelo Ogbonna, Tomas Soucek, Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen and Issa Diop all modelling the new kit.

It is now available to buy on the East London club’s website, boasting a predominantly dark blue colour with claret lines at the end of the sleeves and around the neckline.

The launch of the new kit has brought a lot of excitement to Hammers supporters, as they know that the new 2021/22 season is not far away now, in where they will be playing in the UEFA Europa League as well as the Premier League and domestic cup competitions.

West Ham dealt blow amid Lingard update

West Ham United have been handed a major setback in their attempts to sign Jesse Lingard permanently as his parent club are now apparently happy to keep hold of him for next season.

What’s the word?

According to the ever-reliable ExWHUemployee, the 28-year-old midfielder could be set to sign a new contract at Manchester United after holding talks with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and if he does, that will all but end the Irons’ hopes of securing him this summer.

“Whilst this story could drag on for most of the summer, at this point it appears that whilst we have interest, it will be hard for us to convince Manchester United to sell him and that they could be preparing a new contract for him.

“Ole has spoken to the player and has said he is prepared to give him a chance to prove himself, which Lingard is set to be keen on.  His heart has always been torn but following discussions, it does appear that Ole is prepared to give him another chance to prove himself.

“There are a number of clubs circulating as well but it seems at the moment that his most likely destination is to remain at the club.”

Ex has previously described Lingard as David Moyes’ “main target” and claimed that the player himself “loves West Ham,” so this saga is by no means over but if he does sign a new deal, then that would obviosuly indicate that he plans to stay in Manchester.

Devastating news

The £20m-rated dynamo is currently earning around £75k-per-week in Manchester and it is thought that the East Londoners would struggle to commit to his wage demands of £100k-per-week, as per the Daily Mail.

Which is merely another complication in their attempts to bring him back.

He is someone that Moyes is evidently desperate to keep hold of as speakin to reporters after their final game of the season.

“I hope Jesse’s here, we’d like to keep him, he’s done an exceptional job for us but there’s no guarantees, he’s not our player,” Moyes said, via the Evening Standard. “But I hope Jesse realises we’ve been good for him as well, and that he joined a club on the up.”It’s also no secret how bad the London Stadium faithful want Lingard back as they were seen going wild over him arriving for England duty with a West Ham themed bag.The 28-year-old playmaker provided nine goals and four assists as he finished the 2020/21 campaign as Moyes’ second-highest rated player, as per WhoScored.Without him, Moyes has a lack of options in the creative no.10 role – or at least, those that he does have at his disposal are far from the quality of Lingard. It remains to be seen exactly what this all means Red Devils outcast but either way, it’s looking like he’s got his heart set on staying at Old Trafford rather than moving to the London Stadium.

AVFC: Fans react to Buendia and Martinez update

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni is expecting to have Aston Villa pair Emi Buendia and Emi Martinez for all three World Cup qualifiers during the international break.

And a number of Villa supporters have been quick to give their thoughts to the latest update on social media.

Villa released a statement over the weekend regarding Buendia and Martinez, claiming the pair would be available for matches against Venezuela and Brazil but not a third against Bolivia.

The arrangements Villa thought they had agreed on would mean both would miss one Premier League game against Chelsea due to quarantine restrictions.

However, Scaloni, talking to the media, posted on Twitter by Roy Nemer, believes he will have both Buendia and Martinez available for selection for all three qualifiers.

“We gave the list for the three matches and there’s no doubt about it. The players are here for the three matches.”

Wolves increasingly likely to keep Traore

The biggest priority for Wolves this summer was to keep hold of their best players.

It was something they failed to do 12 months ago when the Molineux outfit lost Diogo Jota to one of the Premier League’s big six.

What’s the word?

Ruben Neves and Adama Traore have been linked with the exit door on a frequent basis this summer but it looks as though both of them will stay.

Neves has been more likely to remain in the Midlands but there has been good news regarding his Spanish teammate on deadline day.

Traore had attracted the interest of Tottenham throughout the window and was the subject of a loan bid.

However, there have been no discussions in the final hour of the window according to Sky Sports reporter Anton Toloui.

Speaking on their deadline day coverage, he commented: “I am told there are no discussions going on between Wolves and Tottenham. It’s looking increasingly likely that Adama Traore will stay at Wolves.”

Fans delighted

Given the scintillating start Adama has had at the beginning of the season, the Old Gold faithful will be elated that he’s going to stay at Molineux.

Although his finishing leaves a lot to be desired, he still holds immense qualities and is capable of beating each and every defender in the Premier League.

Bruno Lage criticised his ability to stick the ball in the back of the net after the defeat to Leicester and you can certainly see why that’s the case. He spurned a glorious opportunity to score against Tottenham a few weeks ago and has only scored two goals in the last 12 months.

However, without him in the squad, they wouldn’t fashion as many goal scoring chances for other members of the team.

So far this season, he has carved out three key passes per match in the top-flight. Furthermore, he’s amassed a truly ridiculous haul of 9.3 dribbles per game – that just so happens to be the highest number by any player across Europe’s top five leagues this season.

To lose a player like that, therefore, would be a pretty hefty blow. Seeing him stay is clearly a positive.

Derby dealt blow in Reece Burke pursuit

Wayne Rooney has been handed a huge blow to his chances of bringing Reece Burke to Derby County this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by the Daily Mail, who claim that Luton Town look set to land the Hull City centre-back, who is also being targeted by Derby County, Bristol City, Cardiff City and Millwall, on a free transfer in the coming weeks.

The £2.16m-rated defender had been offered a new deal to remain at the KCOM Stadium this summer, with his current contract set to expire next month, however, it is understood that Hull and Burke failed to agree on amicable terms.

Rooney will be gutted

Considering just how impressive Burke has been for Hull this season, the news that the former West Ham United defender looks set to reject a move to Pride Park in favour of a switch to Luton is likely to come as a gutting blow for Rooney.

Over his 34 League One appearances for the Tigers this term, the 24-year-old helped his side to keep 15 clean sheets, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 1.3 tackles and 4.4 clearances per game.

The £7.7k-per-week centre-back also impressed in an attacking capacity, scoring four goals, registering one assist and creating one big chance, in addition to winning an average of 4.5 duels per fixture.

These metrics saw Burke earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.09, ranking him as Grant McCann’s fifth-best performer in the third tier and playing a key role for Hull in their title-winning campaign.

As such, the addition of the defender Sam Allardyce dubbed a “magnificent” talent would certainly appear to have significantly boosted Derby’s chances of a much more respectable finish in the Championship next season, particularly as both Curtis Davies and Andre Wisdom look set to depart the club in the coming weeks – as well as one that would have been very kind on the Rams’ finances.

However, with it being reported that Burke would rather make a move to Kenilworth Road than to link up with Rooney’s side this summer, the 35-year-old Derby boss will now have to turn his focus in the transfer market elsewhere.

West Ham gifted Lingard ‘advantage’

West Ham United and manager David Moyes have been gifted an ‘advantage’ in the race to sign Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard this summer, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Moyes eyes Lingard move…

The Premier League ace has been on Moyes’ transfer radar for the better part of a year with reports first emerging in 2021 that West Ham wanted to make Lingard’s loan deal a permanent one.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-newest-updates/” title=”West Ham newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

However, GSB’s efforts to prise away the England international were in vain, with Lingard electing to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his future under ex-boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Following his lack of game time, a January exit for Moyes’ long-term target was on the cards and West Ham even made late attempts to seal his London Stadium return in the winter.

The Irons couldn’t finalise his capture yet again, but as they reportedly go for third time lucky, Lingard’s soon-to-be free agent status could make his signing that bit less complicated.

The Latest: O’Rourke makes promising Lingard claim…

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Pete O’Rourke claims that West Ham have one ‘advantage’ in the race for United’s departing ace.

He also believes that Hammers supporters would certainly ‘encourage’ a move for Lingard going by his brilliant spell in east London last year.

When asked if the 29-year-old’s familiarity with Moyes at West Ham will be a factor, O’Rourke explained: “I think you’ve got to say that it gives them an advantage; they both know each other. Jesse Lingard was such a big fans’ favourite during his loan spell at West Ham, so the fans would definitely encourage that move.”

The Verdict: Get it done?

While the Europa League semi-finalists are arguable front-runners for Lingard, does that mean West Ham should be competing for his signature yet again this summer?

Moyes, as per reliable reports, is targeting a central defender, new midfielder, striker and potential reserve keeper to boost his 2022/2023 ranks.

Lingard is a player of proven top flight quality and experienced England international who has already shined under the Scotsman at West Ham.

The fact he could join for zero cost makes this an arguable no-brainer, even despite the frustrating sagas of West Ham’s last two efforts to sign him.

Moyes, by saving transfer funds on a swoop for Lingard, could then spend big on trying to seal world class central defensive and forward signings.

Called a would-be ‘massive signing’ for West Ham by former England keeper Paul Robinson, we believe that remains the case.
