Wolves transfer update on Adama Traore

Many Wolves fans have been left fuming as a transfer update emerged on Adama Traore.

As per Football Insider, Liverpool have told the Midlands club that they are willing to pay up to £25m to sign the Spain international in the summer window, and a source from the Reds has told the news outlet that any potential deal is ‘some way off’ given their difference in valuations.

The Molineux club currently value him at £50m, and Traore has now entered the final two years of his deal in the Midlands.

In spite of what was a relatively disappointing 2020/21 season for Traore, with only three goals and three assists, he is still a key player for Wolves, and many supporters have not forgotten the previous campaign, when he scored six goals and supplied a further 12 assists (Transfermarkt).

It would also be another killer blow for Bruno Lage’s team to lose another one of their assets to Liverpool, given that they sold Diogo Jota to them last summer.

Leeds eyeing dream Bielsa signing

Leeds United are expected to submit a bid for Nahtian Nandez in the coming weeks and he would be the perfect signing for manager Marcelo Bielsa…

What’s the word?

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, the Yorkshire giants could soon ‘make a proposal’ to Cagliari for the 26-year-old midfielder before this month’s transfer deadline.

The Uruguay international has regularly been linked with a switch to Elland Road and is now thought to be valued at around €20m (£18m).

Nandez has not featured for the Serie A outfit since being withdrawn early with an injury during the Rossoblù’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Udinese before the winter break.

Dream Bielsa signing

It’s thought that the addition of a new central midfielder is amongst the Whites’ biggest priorities this window.

“To my mind, failing to add a midfielder [in the summer] was a mistake and it looks like the priority the club need to focus on in the coming window. You can go back to the interest in Michael Cuisance to see how long they’ve actually been after a player in that area,” recently suggested the reliable Phil Hay of The Athletic.

Indeed, Leeds have not bolstered Bielsa’s engine room with sufficient quality in several seasons now and with players like Mateusz Klich underperforming and Kalvin Phillips on the treatment table, the need for reinforcements in the middle could be key.

The Argentine would surely love a new midfielder and Nandez fits the bill immensely.

Standing at a diminutive 5 foot 7, the ball-winning powerhouse is still strong and would be capable of featuring in a high-pressing system.

“I think he’s only about five foot seven, but you wouldn’t know it if you just watched clips of him, he is a little bit of a machine. He’s so powerful but at the same time, has really, really good ball control,” Italian football expert Conor Clancy once told This is Futbol.

Meanwhile, during the current campaign, the Cagliari star is averaging two tackles, 1.5 dribbles and 1.1 key passes per game, via WhoScored, which merely goes to show his ability to win the ball and then drive forward to make an impact in the final third.

It is that sort of industrious presence that will surely excite Bielsa, so director of football Victor Orta and chairman Andrea Radrizzani could do little wrong in splashing out £20m for a midfield beast ready-made for the football on offer in west Yorkshire.

AND in other news, Leeds could sign Grealish 2.0 in £18m-rated “god-given” talent, he won’t cost a penny…

Journalist believes Solskjaer will stay put

The current crisis at Manchester United is showing no signs of drawing to a conclusion as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s woes grow ever larger.

What’s the story?

United’s latest defeat at the hands of fierce rivals Manchester City was their sixth of the campaign in all competitions and saw them drop to sixth place in the Premier League table.

Their poor performances and dismal results have led to intensifying pressure on Solskjaer’s shoulders, with several star names linked with replacing the Norwegian tactician in the Old Trafford dugout.

The likes of Zinedine Zidane, Erik ten Hag and Ralf Rangnick have been touted as possible successors, but The Athletic’s Red Devils reporter Laurie Whitwell has claimed a new managerial arrival is not on the horizon.

Relaying Whitwell’s comments online, the United Journal tweeted: “I genuinely believe that Manchester United are not talking to any other candidates in a serious manner with a view towards (an) appointment.”

Manchester United fans will be fuming

Although Solskjaer has done vasts amount of good work throughout his two-and-a-half-year reign in the red half of Manchester, large sections of the club’s supporters are growing increasingly frustrated at the club’s displays.

Bar the opening day victory over Leeds United, the 20-time English champions have been below-par all season, resulting in humiliating defeats to Liverpool, City and Young Boys.

Their sub-standard season has led to a protest being organised by some fans who are calling for Solskjaer to be sacked and the Glazer family to relinquish their ownership of the club.

As a result, Whitwell’s latest revelation is likely to leave those supporters fuming, with no end in sight for the Scandinavian’s tenure.

It will be a huge shame if the 48-year-old isn’t fondly remembered by those associated with United in years to come after overseeing an extensive squad rebuild, achieving consecutive top-four finishes and blooding several exciting youngsters into the first-team squad.

Ultimately, though, things will have to drastically improve at the Theatre of Dreams if Solskjaer is to keep his job in the long-term, but it seems as though he’ll be given time to turn things around.

Delph has been a disaster for Everton

Everton are experiencing one of their worst seasons since the Premier League began thirty years ago, and the reckless spending on transfers since Farhad Moshiri arrived has definitely contributed to the Toffees’ demise.

The club now found themselves in financial turmoil on top of the relegation battle the squad are currently embroiled in, recording huge losses over the last three years – with recent reports suggesting that players will need to be sold this summer to recoup funds and balance the books at Goodison Park.

With that being said, Moshiri must now work to repair his years of spending without a second thought, and Fabian Delph has been named by sports journalist Paul Brown as one of the “disaster” signings for Everton who could be set to leave at the end of his contract.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT:

“Obviously, Fabian Delph has been a complete disaster, but his contract is up soon, so there’s absolutely no prospect of them extending that, that I can see.”

Delph returned to action against Manchester United for the first time this year following a thigh injury that had kept him sidelined for the majority of 2022, with injuries being a huge part of the former Manchester City star’s time with the Toffees.

The midfielder who was hailed a “leader” by Pep Guardiola has only made 37 appearances since he joined Everton three years ago in a deal worth up to £10m from Manchester City, spending over 16 months out injured (422 days) – something which proves the transfer has been less than beneficial for the club.

With the 32-year-old out of contract this summer, there has rather understandably been no movement from the club to extend his current deal.

Indeed, it would appear highly advisable for Lampard to axe Delph from his squad this summer, whether the side remain in the Premier League or not, as the rarely-seen player’s wages are one of the highest in the team at £92k-per-week.

Lampard must, however, focus on the immediate problems and will be hoping that his team are well-rested and ready to go following their victory over Manchester United when they return to action next week against Leicester City.

And, while Delph quite clearly has no future at Goodison Park, the 43-year-old manager will nevertheless be hoping the former England international can salvage something from his time at the club by playing a part in keeping the Toffees in the division over the remaining games of the season.

Spurs made deadline day Carrasco move

Taking to Twitter, journalist Jason Burt of The Telegraph has made a Tottenham Hotspur claim involving Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco.

The Lowdown: Spurs eye late Jan move?

On deadline day, reports emerged from France of Spurs holding an interest in the Belgium forward as transfer chief Fabio Paratici eyed last gasp moves after sealing both Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus.

The 28-year-old, who holds a €60million (£50million) release clause, was apparently at the centre of last gasp Spurs discussions amid Lilywhites talks for other targets.

However, the move appeared to eventually break down, with Telegraph reporter Burt sharing what he knows.

The Latest: Tottenham ‘failed in an attempt’…

According to his sources, Tottenham failed with a deadline day swoop for Carrasco as his club took a hard-line stance selling so late on.

“Understand Tottenham Hotspur have failed in an attempt to sign Yannick Carrasco. Atletico Madrid insist the Belgium international is not for sale today,” said the reporter.

The Verdict: Missed out?

As Spurs have to settle for just two new signings, missing out on top targets Adama Traore and Luiz Diaz, news of another failed capture won’t exactly be welcome news.

Manager Antonio Conte reportedly asked for three new additions at N17 but the Lilywhites fell short of his transfer demand (The Telegraph), with the Italian now having to guide Spurs to a Champions League spot without his desired backing.

Carrasco certainly would’ve been a viable candidate, especially going by his attacking versatility and ability to play across the forward line.

Celtic dealt triple injury blow

Celtic have deen dealt a triple blow ahead of their upcoming Premiership fixture this afternoon.

What’s the latest?

In recent comments cited by the Daily Record, Ange Postecoglou revealed that none of James Forrest, Christopher Jullien or Greg Taylor will be available for St Johnstone’s visit to Parkhead, as the stricken trio are yet to recover from their respective injuries.

Speaking about the current state of his Celtic squad, the 56-year-old said: “It’s just Forrest, Jullien and Taylor not available for selection.”

However, in more positive news, Postecoglou revealed that he will once again be able to call upon Josip Juranovic this weekend, while James McCarthy is also set to make a return to the Bhoys squad as both players look to be nearing full fitness.

On Juranovic and McCarthy in particular, the Hoops boss said: “Juranovic has trained, he’s fit and available. McCarthy has trained, he’s fit and available.”

Ange will be gutted

While the news that Juranovic and McCarthy look as if they will play some part on Saturday is undoubtedly good for Celtic, the ongoing absences of Forrest, Jullien and Taylor will nevertheless have left Postecoglou gutted.

Indeed, versatile midfielder Forrest has been a huge source of creativity and goals for the Bhoys in recent years, with the 30-year-old having scored 18 goals and registered 20 assists over 56 appearances in all competitions back in 2018/19, as well as bagging 16 goals and providing 22 assists over 47 games the following season.

Meanwhile, centre-back Jullien has proven to be a magnificent signing for the Hoops following his £7.2m arrival from Toulouse back in 2019, with the 28-year-old helping his side to keep five clean sheets, scoring one goal and averaging a superb SofaScore match rating of 7.43 over his nine Premiership appearances prior to his injury last season.

Finally, while the surprising emergence of 19-year-old left-back Adam Montgomery has somewhat covered for the absence of Taylor on the left-hand side of the Celtic backline, the 23-year-old’s continued unavailability will undoubtedly come as a blow to Postecoglou. The Scotland international is a solid and reliable option in that role, recording more interceptions per game (1.5) than any of his Hoops team-mates.

As such, with the 56-year-old hoping that his side can continue their run of excellent recent form against St Johnstone on Saturday, being unable to call upon any of Forrest, Jullien and Taylor for the visit of the Saints will certainly make this task a bit more difficult for Postecoglou.

Jokanovic drops Ramsdale transfer claim

Slavisa Jokanovic has revealed it was impossible for Sheffield United to turn down the latest offer for Aaron Ramsdale.

What’s the talk?

In recent comments cited by The Guardian, the Sheffield United manager revealed that, despite it being against his wishes, it was almost impossible for the Blades to turn down Arsenal’s £24m plus £6m add-ons offer for the 23-year-old goalkeeper.

The 53-year-old said: “It’s not really what I want but it’s difficult to stop this kind of situation. It’s a huge deal for the club and we have been relegated from the Premier League, so it’s complicated to say no.”

Indeed, the Serbian manager had previously stated that he would be hurt if the club sanctioned the sale of the Euro 2020 England squad member, as well as suggesting that he would not part with the shot-stopper this summer even for an offer of £100m.

Fans will be fuming

With it having been claimed that United would not be budging on their initial £35m asking price for Ramsdale just a matter of day ago, the fact that the ‘keeper looks to be heading to Arsenal for a guaranteed transfer fee of almost £10m less than this figure, in addition to the sale clearly being against Jokanovic’s wishes, will undoubtedly have fans of the club fuming.

Indeed, the fact that news of the £10.8m-rated man’s sale came shortly after the Blades were battered 4-0 by West Bromwich Albion, a game which the 23-year-old did not feature in, clearly demonstrates just how important the shot-stopper is within the Sheffield United team.

Furthermore, while the deal has not been completed just yet, with there now only being a couple of weeks left of the summer transfer window, Jokanovic faces the unenviable task of sourcing an apt replacement for the goalkeeper alongside attempting to secure his side’s first Championship win of the season – with the Blades currently occupying one of the three relegation spots in the second tier.

As such, it very much appears as if affairs both on and off the pitch at Bramall Lane are in something of a mess at present, with fans of the club surely furious with their side’s performances in the league, as well as what looks to be the United hierarchy going back on their word regarding the transfer of Ramsdale.

Rangers had a nightmare with Carlos Pena

Rangers have had their fair share of transfer success in recent years, ranging from the likes of Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi to Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe.

However, sometimes things do not work out as planned and some transfers do not go down as well as the manager would hope, with the signing of Mexican midfielder Carlos Pena in 2017 falling into this category.

Ex-Ibrox manager Pedro Caixinha brought him to the club from Guadalajara in 2017 for a reported fee of £2.2m and he endured a nightmare spell in Scotland.

The Mexican did score an impressive five goals in 14 games for the club, but his strike rate was not the problem. His all-around performances were lacking, according to the Portuguese coach, and he had issues off the pitch as well.

Caixinha previously said that Pena was playing at ’60 per cent’ of his capability and highlighted the struggles he was having in receiving the ball in tight areas.

The ex-Gers boss said: “He has much more to give, believe me. I think he’s at 60 per cent of his capabilities, the way I know him. But I think the first step for everyone to progress is knowing that you need to progress.

“It’s when you’re looking to add something and you say ‘Ok, I agree. Let’s work on it’. We are working. It’s a question of time. In terms of fitness, I can tell you, there is nothing he has to improve.

“Football is not all about fitness, football is about decisions. And we are preparing Carlos to make quick decisions when he is restricted in time and space.

“When he has time and space, he performs his football. He just needs to adapt when he doesn’t have time and space – and that’s nothing to do with fitness.”

Steven Gerrard and the club made the decision to terminate his contract in 2019, with alcohol-related discipline problems cited as one of the reasons behind his exit. Andy Halliday once dubbed him a “modern alcoholic” and claimed that he could smell the beer on him in training.

This shows that he had issues on and off the pitch and the Gers were forced to ship him off on a free transfer, which meant that they did not recoup any money back from the initial £2.2m they spent on him.

Therefore, the deal was a nightmare from start to finish for both Rangers and Pena. Hopefully he has since been able to overcome his alcohol problems and become settled off the pitch, because his health is more important than his football career.

Tottenham: Conte gifted Ivan Perisic boost

According to Inter Live, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has been gifted a boost in the race to sign Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic.

The Lowdown: Spurs enter talks…

According to reports over the last week from Germany, Spurs have entered talks to sign the Croatian as his contract winds down at the San Siro.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-developments-2/” title=”Spurs developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

His current deal, which set to expire in 2022, presents an opportunity for interested clubs to sign him on a pre-contract ahead of a summer move for free.

Sport 1 claimed that there are currently ‘talks with Tottenham’ over a move to sign Perisic for Conte, with another update now coming courtesy of Inter Live.

The Latest: Perisic prioritises Spurs move…

In a boost for Conte, the outlet claimed (via Sport Witness) that Perisic is very keen on a move to north London, with his future at the San Siro now more uncertain than ever.

It is claimed that a ‘first-rated space’ is reserved for Spurs in particular, where he would re-join Conte after the pair’s time together in Italy. This feasibly puts Tottenham above the ‘row of clubs’ who are eager to sign Perisic, including his former club Wolfsburg.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Amassing plenty of experience on the biggest stages in world football, including World Cup semi-final heroics against England, Perisic would be an astute swoop on a free transfer.

He has been a mainstay for the Nerazzurri this season, scoring three goals and setting up one more over 13 Serie A starts, with former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho a big fan of the player. The 6 foot 1 colossus is also tailor-made for the Premier League, with former Inter head coach Luciano Spaletti claiming that the Croatian’s physique is that of a ‘horse’.

Able to play across the attacking midfield and as a centre-forward (Transfermarkt), the 32-year-old could even come as a makeshift alternative to Harry Kane going by his impressive 132-goal senior career haul.

Lauded as ‘sensational’ by the Italian press for his recent form, it’s clear that he is not only attainable but also a solid option for Conte.

Aston Villa: Fans react to Louie Barry loan

Aston Villa announced on Friday afternoon that Louie Barry has joined Ipswich Town on a season-long loan, and a number of Villa fans were quick to react to the news on social media.

Barry helped Villa to win the FA Youth Cup for the first time since 2002 last season and has scored 22 goals for the club’s youth sides after joining from Barcelona last year.

The 18-year-old actually scored on his first-team debut at Villa Park against Liverpool in the FA Cup and will now be given the chance to gain regular senior football at Portman Road.

Barry was included on Ipswich’s bench just 24 hours after a deal went through, but the forward didn’t get on for The Tractor Boys in their 2-2 draw with Morecambe on the opening weekend of League One.

Villa fans react

Villa shared the news regarding Barry on their official Twitter page on Friday. Here is what these Villa supporters had to say in reply, with one labelling a temporary move as ‘brilliant’.
