Celtic dealt triple injury blow

Celtic have deen dealt a triple blow ahead of their upcoming Premiership fixture this afternoon.

What’s the latest?

In recent comments cited by the Daily Record, Ange Postecoglou revealed that none of James Forrest, Christopher Jullien or Greg Taylor will be available for St Johnstone’s visit to Parkhead, as the stricken trio are yet to recover from their respective injuries.

Speaking about the current state of his Celtic squad, the 56-year-old said: “It’s just Forrest, Jullien and Taylor not available for selection.”

However, in more positive news, Postecoglou revealed that he will once again be able to call upon Josip Juranovic this weekend, while James McCarthy is also set to make a return to the Bhoys squad as both players look to be nearing full fitness.

On Juranovic and McCarthy in particular, the Hoops boss said: “Juranovic has trained, he’s fit and available. McCarthy has trained, he’s fit and available.”

Ange will be gutted

While the news that Juranovic and McCarthy look as if they will play some part on Saturday is undoubtedly good for Celtic, the ongoing absences of Forrest, Jullien and Taylor will nevertheless have left Postecoglou gutted.

Indeed, versatile midfielder Forrest has been a huge source of creativity and goals for the Bhoys in recent years, with the 30-year-old having scored 18 goals and registered 20 assists over 56 appearances in all competitions back in 2018/19, as well as bagging 16 goals and providing 22 assists over 47 games the following season.

Meanwhile, centre-back Jullien has proven to be a magnificent signing for the Hoops following his £7.2m arrival from Toulouse back in 2019, with the 28-year-old helping his side to keep five clean sheets, scoring one goal and averaging a superb SofaScore match rating of 7.43 over his nine Premiership appearances prior to his injury last season.

Finally, while the surprising emergence of 19-year-old left-back Adam Montgomery has somewhat covered for the absence of Taylor on the left-hand side of the Celtic backline, the 23-year-old’s continued unavailability will undoubtedly come as a blow to Postecoglou. The Scotland international is a solid and reliable option in that role, recording more interceptions per game (1.5) than any of his Hoops team-mates.

As such, with the 56-year-old hoping that his side can continue their run of excellent recent form against St Johnstone on Saturday, being unable to call upon any of Forrest, Jullien and Taylor for the visit of the Saints will certainly make this task a bit more difficult for Postecoglou.

O’Rourke drops Carter-Vickers claim

Pete O’Rourke has dropped a worrying claim regarding Celtic’s bid to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis.

What’s the talk?

In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke stated his belief that, while Ange Postecoglou would ideally like to sign the Tottenham Hotspur loanee on a permanent basis in the January transfer window, Celtic may not be able to afford a move for the centre-back this month.

Speaking about the club’s potential deal for the 24-year-old, the journalist said: “Celtic would ideally love to get this deal wrapped up quickly, but I think £10m would be a bit too much for Celtic right now – so they may have to wait to the summer.”

In further comments given to the same publication, O’Rourke then suggested that, as a result of the USA international’s fine performances north of the border, the Bhoys could well end up missing out on the defender’s signature altogether, as a number of other clubs will have taken note of his impressive displays for the Hoops.

The journalist said: “The worry for Celtic is if Carter-Vickers continues to impress up at Celtic Park, that might bring other clubs to the table to try to sign the American in the summer.”

Postecoglou would be fuming

Considering just how impressive Carter-Vickers has been for Celtic since his season-long loan move to Parkhead last summer, should the Bhoys indeed go on to miss out on the centre-back’s permanent signing, it would undoubtedly be an outcome that will have Postecoglou fuming.

Indeed, over his 15 Premiership outings in the current campaign, the £2.7m-rated defender has helped his side keep seven clean sheets, scored two goals and provided his teammates with one assist, as well as making an average of 1.4 interceptions, 0.7 tackles, 85.2 passes and winning a whopping 71% of his duels per game.

These returns have seen the £20k-per-week man average a rather astonishing SofaScore match rating of 7.45, ranking him as the fourth-best performer in the entirety of the Scottish top flight.

As such, it is clear for all to see that Carter-Vickers would make an excellent addition to Postecoglou’s permanent options in the heart of his Celtic defence.

That leads us to believe that the defender moving anywhere other than Parkhead at the end of the season would come as a gutting blow for the 56-year-old manager – particularly as it has been reported that the Hoops have already started negotiations with the player regarding his transfer to the club.

Liverpool in talks over Adeyemi transfer

Liverpool have seen numerous attacking players join the Merseyside club over the past few years.

With the Reds boasting the best attacking record in the Premier League this season, it seems as though the scouting and recruitment staff at the club have certainly been doing a top job.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Looking ahead to the next summer transfer window, it seems as though the Anfield outfit have their eye on bringing yet another attacking talent to their squad.

Although, they may have a challenge on their hands this time around.

What’s the news?

According to Sky Sports Austria (via Inside Futbol) Liverpool are in talks with Red Bull Salzburg over the potential summer transfer of striker Karim Adeyemi.

It has also been claimed that despite having a basic agreement in place with Borussia Dortmund for the player, other clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig are also in the mix to sign the 20-year-old.

With 123 senior appearances under his belt for Salzburg and his previous club FC Liefering, the attacker has scored 45 goals and provided 32 assists along the way.

This shows what an exciting young attacking and creative talent the German is and presumably why there are so many clubs after his signature.

Labelled as being “ice cold” in front of goal by former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick, Adeyemi has found the back of the net 19 times and delivered five assists in 32 appearances across the Austrian Bundesliga and the Champions League this season.

Having been described as being “the star” for Salzburg during their Champions League clash against Bayern back in February by Glenn Hoddle, this shows how capable he is of playing against top opposition on the big stage.

Given how young he is, the £31.5m-rated starlet could be an ideal long-term investment for Liverpool to make.

Also, with Klopp having used young players in his Liverpool side such as Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Tyler Morton and Kaide Gordon over the years, Adeyemi could be the next emerging prodigy to develop at Anfield.

Moving forward, as long as there is still an opportunity to sign the 20-year-old in the summer, Liverpool should stay in the mix to secure his signature.

Rangnick must utilise Lingard for MUFC

Manchester United made no signings in the January transfer window and with a top-four race, FA Cup challenge and qualifying for the Champions League round of 16, Ralf Rangnick must look to his weakened squad to deliver success in the latter stages of the season.

The side currently sits fourth in the table during the winter break, with a game in hand over West Ham United who trail behind by just one point in fifth, so it is really important for the Red Devils boss to capitalise on the opportunity to break away from their competition by securing a run of winning form.

When it comes to form, there are certain players who have been unable to deliver on the expectations that were made of them when they joined the side in the summer, with Jadon Sancho a prime example.

The 21-year-old has been unable to emulate his success at Borussia Dortmund during his time at Old Trafford so far, with just 16 goals and 21 assists in 38 appearances, there has been a clear decline in his performances.

One player who has been a huge talking point during the transfer window is Jesse Lingard, who was tipped to go to Newcastle United or West Ham several times over the last month, but it was reported that the board blocked the move, and now the 29-year-old who was hailed “unique” by Manchester United legend, Michael Carrick, will see out the last five months of his contract at his boyhood club.

With that being said, it could be the perfect opportunity to unleash Lingard back in the team to assist with the top four race and multiple competitions still in sight for the club, especially when his attacking output is better than Sancho this season with two goals and one assist in just 273 minutes of game time, which is almost 1000 minutes less than Sancho so far.

We also saw the impact that the £80k-per-week maestro had on West Ham during his loan stint, helping the Hammers secure a place in Europa League football with nine goals and five assists in just 16 appearances in the final months of last season, and this consistent attacking output is something that Rangnick desperately needs to ensure he can end the season on a high for the club during his first eight months in charge as interim.

Manchester United will take on Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Friday evening, and it could be the perfect opportunity for the German coach to give Lingard the chance to shine and play a pivotal role in ensuring that the side can move into the next round with ease, giving the club a chance to pick up their first silverware in almost five years.

Leeds eyeing dream Bielsa signing

Leeds United are expected to submit a bid for Nahtian Nandez in the coming weeks and he would be the perfect signing for manager Marcelo Bielsa…

What’s the word?

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, the Yorkshire giants could soon ‘make a proposal’ to Cagliari for the 26-year-old midfielder before this month’s transfer deadline.

The Uruguay international has regularly been linked with a switch to Elland Road and is now thought to be valued at around €20m (£18m).

Nandez has not featured for the Serie A outfit since being withdrawn early with an injury during the Rossoblù’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Udinese before the winter break.

Dream Bielsa signing

It’s thought that the addition of a new central midfielder is amongst the Whites’ biggest priorities this window.

“To my mind, failing to add a midfielder [in the summer] was a mistake and it looks like the priority the club need to focus on in the coming window. You can go back to the interest in Michael Cuisance to see how long they’ve actually been after a player in that area,” recently suggested the reliable Phil Hay of The Athletic.

Indeed, Leeds have not bolstered Bielsa’s engine room with sufficient quality in several seasons now and with players like Mateusz Klich underperforming and Kalvin Phillips on the treatment table, the need for reinforcements in the middle could be key.

The Argentine would surely love a new midfielder and Nandez fits the bill immensely.

Standing at a diminutive 5 foot 7, the ball-winning powerhouse is still strong and would be capable of featuring in a high-pressing system.

“I think he’s only about five foot seven, but you wouldn’t know it if you just watched clips of him, he is a little bit of a machine. He’s so powerful but at the same time, has really, really good ball control,” Italian football expert Conor Clancy once told This is Futbol.

Meanwhile, during the current campaign, the Cagliari star is averaging two tackles, 1.5 dribbles and 1.1 key passes per game, via WhoScored, which merely goes to show his ability to win the ball and then drive forward to make an impact in the final third.

It is that sort of industrious presence that will surely excite Bielsa, so director of football Victor Orta and chairman Andrea Radrizzani could do little wrong in splashing out £20m for a midfield beast ready-made for the football on offer in west Yorkshire.

Aston Villa fans heap praise on El Ghazi after stunning assist

[ad_pod ]Loads of Aston Villa fans have been running the rule over Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Stoke City, and they’re delighted with Anwar El Ghazi.January signings Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause were both very impressive as the Villans came from behind to get a point on Saturday afternoon, but it was one of the summer captures that really stole the show.Dean Smith’s side fell behind in the first half when Sam Vokes smartly back-heeled a Sam Clucas cross past Jed Steer, and the performance was really poor before the interval. While the arrival of Smith certainly hasn’t helped the defence, he has instilled a never-say-die attitude in the squad, and they were far better in the second half.El Ghazi has managed just four goals and three assists so far this season, but he produced a moment of pure brilliance to make the equalising goal, sprinting past several Stoke defenders before drilling a smart ball for Albert Adomah to finish.

You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where fans are full of praise for the 23 year-old loan signing…

Everton: Fans slam Seamus Coleman v Spurs

A number of Everton fans have hit out at the performance of Seamus Coleman on social media in Sunday’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.

Rafael Benitez made three changes from the 2-1 defeat to Wolves last time out, with Lucas Digne, Fabian Delph and Anthony Gordon coming in for Mason Holgate, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Alex Iwobi.

However, it was Coleman’s display which had a number of fans talking, and not for the right reasons either. The 33-year-old was making his eighth Premier League start of the campaign, playing in his usual right-back role.

The Irishman seemed to have a quiet afternoon in the 0-0 draw, though, with his name coming up just once in Sky Sports’ live feed of the game. He also gave the ball away on 22 occasions per SofaScore, ending with a pass competition rate of 74%, and had a frustrating afternoon getting forward, failing to record a key pass or accurate cross.

Everton fans react to Coleman’s performance

Here is what these Everton supporters had to say about the full-back on Twitter, with one labelling him a ‘headless chicken’, perhaps in reference to the frequency with which he relinquished possession.

Rangers: O’Rourke makes Veerman claim

A major Rangers transfer claim has been made, regarding Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman…

What’s the talk?

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that the Dutchman will be ‘high on the list’ of the Gers’ transfer targets in the January window.

The reporter has revealed that they attempted to sign him in the summer and that the arrival of Gio van Bronckhorst could see them try for a second time.

He told GIVEMESPORT:

“Veerman will definitely be high on the list of targets.

“They tried to sign him in the summer and he still remains high on their list of potential targets.

“With van Bronckhorst in there now, I think it just gives extra weight in maybe following up that interest in the Dutchman.”

Excitement

Rangers fans will surely be excited by this claim from O’Rourke as it brings with it the prospect of a top addition to the squad coming in January.

His comments suggest that the Gers could make a swoop for the talented midfielder and supporters could be delighted with that as his form in the Netherlands suggests that he could be a fantastic signing.

Veerman has averaged a phenomenal SofaScore rating of 7.53 in the Eredivisie this season, scoring three goals and providing six assists in 16 games.

He is averaging an exceptional 2.4 key passes per game, whilst also winning 56% of his duels and making 2.9 tackles and interceptions per game.

Last season, he averaged a score of 7.35 as he produced seven goals and ten assists in 31 games in the Eredivisie for Heerenveen. He made 1.9 key passes and 3.0 tackles and interceptions per game, whilst also winning 55% of his duels in the middle of the park.

In the current Rangers squad, Joe Aribo’s 1.6 key passes per game leads the midfield contingent when it comes to chance creation, whilst the Nigerian’s 2.4 tackles and interceptions per game also tops the charts for midfielders in the side.

This means that Veerman is outperforming every midfielder in the Rangers squad when it comes to creating chances and winning the ball back for his side. He has shown that he can have an impact in both boxes and perform consistently to a high level, although it remains to be seen whether or not his form in his home country is transferable to the Premiership.

Irrespective of the what if’s at the moment, Rangers fans will surely be excited by the prospect of signing a player with Veerman’s statistics in the Eredivisie.

He can only play against what is put in front of him and he is putting up some impressive numbers that could make him an excellent addition to van Bronckhorst’s side if he is able to adapt to Scottish football.

Aston Villa dealt Joe Gomez transfer blow

Having had a rather busy January transfer window so far in terms of bringing new players to the club throughout the month, it seems as though Aston Villa can cross one of their reported targets off their wish list for the time being.

What’s the talk?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Pete O’Rourke had his say on the chances of Villa signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, who has been mentioned with a move to Villa Park in recent weeks, before Monday’s transfer deadline.

He said: “Villa are trying hard, I know Steven Gerrard has been on the phone to Liverpool to see if there’s any possibility to get Joe Gomez, as centre-back is a position that Villa are desperate to do before Monday’s deadline, but as things stand right now, I think Joe Gomez will remain at Anfield.”

With a total of 133 appearances for the Merseyside club under his belt across all competitions, as well as a Premier League title and Champions League triumph, the 24-year-old could have been a very useful asset for the Villans.

With just four Premier League appearances to his name this season, each of which came from the substitutes’ bench, a move to Villa Park could have been particularly tempting for Gomez, especially if he has be able to play regularly under a figure like Gerrard.

However, despite the 41-year-old’s best efforts, it seems as though Liverpool will not be letting the defender leave this month.

Gerrard will be fuming

Gerrard will not be happy that Villa haven’t been able to bring Gomez to the club this month and now look unlikely to secure the 24-year-old’s signature. Indeed, the manager may well be fuming that this long-time target appears to have fallen away.

At least they’ve managed to bring in Calum Chambers from Arsenal in what would presumably have been a better deal for Villa from a financial point of view given how they signed him on a free transfer, whereas Liverpool would likely have wanted a sizeable fee for Gomez.

Moving forward, it seems as though the speculation surrounding the Liverpool man and a potential move to Villa can be put to bed with Gerrard now having four capable centre-backs in his squad to help the team end the season as strongly as possible.

Pete O’Rourke makes Dybala/Spurs claim

Tottenham Hotspur have a good chance of signing Paulo Dybala if the Juventus attacker wants a move to an English club in the summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Dybala’s contract at Juventus

The Argentina international is out of contract in the summer, and to that effect, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Juventus had a verbal agreement with the 28-year-old last October, but they have since gone back on their word over their proposal.

Following the new conditions, Dybala will leave the Turin club as a free agent, as he is now ready to hold talks with a list of potential suitors.

The Latest: O’Rourke’s claim on Dybala

O’Rourke has tipped Tottenham to be one of Dybala’s top destinations.

Speaking with GiveMeSport, he claimed: “I think if there’s a chance that Dybala does come to the Premier League, I think there’s a real strong possibility that Spurs could be leading the hunt for him.”

The Verdict: Great deal for Spurs

Whilst Antonio Conte has one of the world’s best strikers at his disposal in Harry Kane, the Italian is rather short of alternative options in the event that his star forward gets injured.

As a result, Dybala could be the perfect addition to Tottenham’s squad. As a second striker this season, the Argentine has netted 11 goals in 20 games, illustrating his ability to play in a different formation to Kane, so his arrival would provide Conte with an excellent alternative.

Once hailed by international colleague Lionel Messi to have a “bright future ahead of him”, the Juventus forward has been renowned for his creative talent; and with a current Transfermarkt valuation of £36m, Tottenham will be receiving a bargain if they can secure him on a free transfer in the summer.
