A round-up of the fifth round of matches in Tiers A and B of Sri Lanka’s Premier League Tournament

Saracens victory in a low-scoring game in Panagoda was fashioned by offspinner Dilshan Wimaladarma, who took a career-best 8 for 68 in the first innings and a match haul of 10 for 148, to bowl out Army for 161 and 153 in either innings. He had the support of left-arm orthodox spinner Geeth Alwis who took 6 for 36 in the second innings. On a pitch described by Saracens coach Dinesh Kumarasinghe as “not fit for a Division I club match”, the spinners held the upper hand throughout. Spinner Ajantha Mendis also bowled splendidly, capturing 6 for 64 in the Saracens second innings, along with legspinner Seekkuge Prasanna, who finished the match with 7 for 98. Upul Tharanga celebrated his recall to the Sri Lankan one-day side as Tillakaratne Dilshan’s opening partner for the tour of India when he blazed away to a stroke-filled 155 off 210 balls. CCC skipper Tharindu Mendis’ decision to field first turned out to be a nightmare for his team as Tharanga and his opening partner Yohan de Silva (88) gave Nondescripts a flying start with a double-century partnership. They built on that platform with rising star Dinesh Chandimal scoring his second century of the season, a career best 164 off 168 balls, as the CCC bowlers were put to the sword. CCC were pegged back further as the young Angelo Perera stroked an unbeaten half-century before captain Tharanga finally closed the innings. Although the game ended in a draw, Nondescripts gained enough batting and bowling points to consolidate their position at the top of the table.CCC coach Vipula Sittamige was optimistic that his team could turn things around in the next six weeks before the tournament ends. “We have been scoring runs and getting wickets but we have been unable to play our best eleven in any of the matches because some of our key players are not available for various reasons,” Sittamage said. “At the same time, we have been constantly unlucky not to be able to earn first-innings points from most of our games. Chasing Tamil Union’s total of 320, Colts were very much in the hunt at 232 for 4, but Mathews’ dismissal with the score on 244 sparked off a collapse and Colts lost their remaining wickets for 39 runs. Muthumudalige Pushpakumara, another promising allrounder knocking on the selectors’ doors, was Tamil Union’s trump card. He top scored with a cultured 79 and followed it up with four wickets, including that of Mathews.Last season’s runners-up Sinhalese Sports Club’s (SSC’s) chances of winning the title this year suffered a major setback when they conceded vital first-innings points to Chilaw Marians Cricket Club at Maitland Place. Marians performed exceptionally well to bowl out a full-strength SSC team for 171. On a seaming pitch, which was under covers for almost 15 hours due to bad weather, SSC’s batsmen, with the exception of Tharanga Paranavitana, floundered. Paranavitana managed an exceptional 103 off 189 balls, scoring 60% of his team’s total. Despite the regular fall of wickets, Marians scraped out a narrow 39-run lead, thanks to a composed 76 off 129 balls from Milinda Siriwardene. SSC offspinner Sachitra Sennanayake continued to impress with his second five-wicket haul for the season.

After finishing with Ananda College, offspinner Dilshan Wimaladarma had been searching for the ideal club where he could display his bowling skills. He had short stints with Burgher Recreation Club, Air Force Sports Club and Bloomfield, before joining Saracens for the current season. Under the guidance of coach Dinesh Kumarasinghe, Wimaladarma is turning out to be a matchwinner for Saracens.Last week, he took a career-best of eight wickets in an innings against Sri Lanka Army Sports Club to hand Saracens their first win of the season. “It is not an easy task taking eight wickets in an innings,” said Kumarasinghe. “If he is looked after properly Dilshan has all the makings of a bowler who can reach the top of the ladder. Dilshan has variety: he bowls offspin, top spin and the one that goes straight through. He is not just an ordinary bowler but one who will matches for us.”.At 24, Wimaladarma has time on his hands to develop into a top-class spinner and in Saracens he may have found the right club to pursue that goal.

Ainda aguardando regularização para assumir o posto de treinador, Gilson Kleina acompanhou a partida do banco, enquanto a equipe era supervisionada por Emerson Cris.

O interino se mostrou esperançoso com a chegada de Kleina e atribuiu a ele parte do mérito pela vitória no Independência. Os dois conseguiram conversar pessoalmente na capital mineira, antes do jogo.

Loads of Everton fans have been left flocking to an exit rumour involving Lucas Digne.

As per The Athletic, both Juventus and Inter Milan are looking at potentially signing the left-back after he had a row with Rafa Benitez.

Digne was left out of the squad that beat Arsenal 2-1 at Goodison Park on Monday night, casting some doubt over his future at the Merseyside club.

While he may not be on his best form, having recorded no assists in the Premier League so far this season compared to the seven that he managed in the last campaign (WhoScored), he still remains the Toffees’ only senior left-back available in the squad, and so it would be strange to let him go so suddenly even despite rumours of unrest behind the scenes.

Muttiah Muralitharan, the Sri Lankan spinner, has said he may quit international cricket before the 2011 World Cup in the subcontinent.Murali, on his fourth tour to India, his final overseas tour, is struggling to come to terms with the placid Indian pitches and a strong batting line-up which has treated him harshly in the series so far. In the second Test, in Kanpur, he went for over 100 runs for the second time in two Tests in the series, and so far his five wickets have cost him 396 runs, at an average of 79.20.”I am 37 years old and I can’t bowl as much as those days because I get tired after 15-16 overs. But I will try and play a little bit of one-day cricket – that’s only 10 overs to bowl. If I find everything is not going well I might retire from both forms of the game before the World Cup,” Murali said. “Everything depends on how much my body can take. In Test cricket it’s a little bit harder because I have always been a threat to other sides [but] at the moment it’s not looking like that because others are playing me well. I think I made the right decision to retire from Test cricket at the end of the West Indies series next year.”Two to three years ago it was not like this. Now you have niggles here and there and my groin is not the same as it used to be. We got the worst bowling conditions in the last two Tests. We didn’t have the bowlers, that was one of the factors. But that’s the way cricket goes, everything won’t work in your favour.”Sri Lanka are struggling in the series because Murali has not been able to give them the breakthroughs he usually does. “I’ve played only eight Tests this year: two against Bangladesh, two against Pakistan, and two against New Zealand when I really did well bowling in the second innings of the second Test with a groin injury,” he said. “Whenever the side wanted a breakthrough I got it for them in the New Zealand series. I don’t know why it’s not happening here.”You have to give credit to India also for playing well. Whatever we were expecting didn’t happen. Even the spinners didn’t do well in any Test because everyone was not up to the mark and the wicket was not assisting them.”Sri Lanka are yet to win a Test in India, but Murali said that he won’t be too disappointed if he had to return home without a Test victory in India. “Every cricketer has to go through disappointments. Everything you want to happen in life won’t happen; something will be missing. Looking back I can say what an amazing career I have gone through but if we can’t win in India that’s it. Life has to go on.”Already the leading wicket-taker in Tests, he needs 12 more wickets in a possible three Tests to reach 800, but he said he was not targetting personal milestones. “I am not really focussing on finishing off my career taking 800 Test wickets. My focus is on winning matches. I don’t believe in numbers. Eight hundred is just a number everyone will forget once you retire. It’s a number to have in your mind. الزمالك يلتقي إليكت التشادي، يوم الأحد المقبل، في إطار مواجهة الإياب للدور التمهيدي الأول الـ64 من دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

وخاض رباعي الفريق محمود عبد الرازق شيكابالا ومحمد عبد الغني ومحمد أشرف روقا وسيد عبد الله نيمار، تدريبات تأهيلية واستشفائية، يأتي ذلك في ظل مشاركتهم بشكل أساسي في مواجهة إليكت التشادي الأخيرة في ذهاب الدور التمهيدي.

وقام الرباعي بالجري الخفيف لمدة دقائق قليلة بمحيط الملعب، ومن ثم أدوا العديد من التدريبات التأهيلية والاستشفائية باستخدام الحواجز، كذلك الكرة، لعلاج الإرهاق العضلي وتجهيزهم بالشكل المناسب.

كما شملت الفقرة الخاصة بالرباعي، أداء بعض التدريبات الخاصة بزيادة القدرة على التركيز باستخدام كرات تنس أرضي، وأطواق بلاستيكية، يتم تسديدها في مكان خاص تم إعداده.

وشهدت التدريبات غياب العديد من اللاعبين بسبب الانضمام لقائمة المنتخب الوطني الأول أو الأولمبي، ومنتخب تونس، أبرزهم محمد صبحي وأحمد سيد “زيزو” وإمام عاشور ومحمود حمدي “الونش” وأحمد فتوح، حيث يواصلون الاستعداد مع الفراعنة لمواجهة النيجر وليبيريا يومي 23 و27 من الشهر الجاري.

وفي نفس الوقت، يغيب عن التدريبات التونسيان حمزة المثلوثي وسيف الدين الجزيري، بسبب الانضمام لمعسكر نسور قرطاج.

وفي سياق متصل يغيب اللاعب الشاب محمد طارق بسبب الانضمام لمعسكر المنتخب الوطني الأولمبي المقام حاليا استعدادا للتصفيات الأفريقية المؤهلة لأولمبياد باريس 2024.

وأدى الثنائي حسام عبد المجيد وسيف فاروق جعفر لاعبا الفريق تدريبات تأهيلية خاصة داخل صالة الجيمانيزيوم بمقر النادي، ويأتي ذلك وفقا لبرنامج تدريبي موضوع للثنائي من قبل الجهاز الفني بقيادة البرتغالي جوسفالدو فيريرا، من أجل علاج الإرهاق وتجهيزهما بالشكل المناسب للفترة المقبلة.

وخصص جوسفالدو فيريرا تدريبات تأهيلية تم تقسيمها إلى جزئين، الأول كان عبارة عن جري بمحيط الملعب بجانب أمور تاهيلية متعددة أخرى لعلاج الإرهاق وتقوية العضلات.

أما الجزء الثاني فكان عبارة عن تدريبات تأهيل باستخدام الكرة، من خلال تقسيم اللاعبين لمجموعات ومن ثم تقوم كل مجموعة بالتمرير في مربعات صغيرة.

وقاد الفقرة التأهيلية الخاصة بمجموعة اللاعبين البدلاء والمستبعدين من مواجهة إليكت، كل من أسامة نبيه المدرب العام وأحمد عبد المقصود وروي أجواش المدربين المساعدين.

وحرص دانيال جونزاليس محلل الأداء، على تدوين كافة الملاحظات والتفاصيل الخاصة بهذه الفقرة، للوقوف على حالة اللاعبين.

كما حرص أيمن طاهر مدرب حراس المرمى، على تخصيص فقرة تدريبات تأهيلية خاصة لثلاثي حراسة المرمى محمد عواد ومحمد نديم والسيد عطية، عقب ذلك خاض الثلاثي تدريبات فنية لتمرير ونقل الكرة بالقدم بالشكل الصحيح.

يذكر أن الزمالك انتصر على إليكت التشادي بهدفين دون رد، في مباراة الذهاب التي أقيمت بالكاميرون الأحد الماضي.

Since new manager Antonio Conte’s arrival at N17, Spurs and managing director Fabio Paratici have been linked with a host of names from the Italian top flight.

As per inews, Spurs are favourites to sign Bologna ace Svanberg with the club even ready to make him Conte’s first signing of the new era.

The 6 foot 1 powerhouse, tipped to be a player Conte would especially like, has also been called ‘very talented’ by the outlet’s source with knowledge of the situation – who also says Spurs may see some ‘big’ changes next month.

“He’s probably one of the top four or five No 8’s in Europe – that’s how good he is,” the source explained.

“Spurs already know him very, very well because of the Italians involved in the club now. And it looks as though there could be some fairly big changes at the club in January.

“Anyone who has seen him play for Bologna will tell you that he’s the sort of player that Conte would enjoy working with.”

The Lowdown: Priority for Spurs?

The 22-year-old’s impressive form for Bologna earned him a call up to Sweden’s Euro 2020 squad and this could be an indication of his sky high potential.

In terms of creativity and what the midfielder could bring to Spurs, Svanberg’s fairly consistent average of 1.3 key passes per 90 in the final third this season highlights his consistent threat at a young age (WhoScored).

Only Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min have managed a higher number by comparison with the international ace also racking up three goals and two assists so far in Serie A.

Given he allegedly turned down a contract offer recently, Bologna could also be forced to sell for a cut price fee as his current deal slowly winds down.

However, given the lack of cover up front for Harry Kane and their potential need for another centre-half, Svanberg’s capture perhaps shouldn’t quite take centre stage – though he would be an astute purchase.
