Man United fans slam Fred v Tottenham

Manchester United got back to winning ways on Saturday evening with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham.

Despite the positive result, a number of United supporters hit out at Fred on social media during the game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made just two changes in personnel from the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, but the Red Devils switched to a 3-4-2-1 system.

The Brazilian kept his place in the side for his 11th appearance of the campaign and partnered Scott McTominay in midfield, with Bruno Fernandes more advanced, but statistically the 28-year-old had a game to forget.

As per SofaScore, Fred was comfortably United’s worst-rated starter with a match rating of just 6.3/10. He lost the ball 16 times, lost 15 of his 20 duels, committed four fouls and was dribbled past four times; while his name didn’t crop up once in Sky Sports’ live web commentary on the match, which suggests that he made minimal impact on proceedings.

A number of United fans didn’t like what they saw from the midfielder, who played the entirety of the game in north London.

United fans react to Fred’s performance

Here is what some United supporters had to say about Fred, with one labelling him as ‘garbage’, while others lamented that the Brazilian “isn’t Man Utd level” and could cost the under-pressure Solskjaer his job.

“I know Fred isn’t Man Utd level and we as #mufc always get frustrated watching him. However, how bad has Lo Celso been for Spurs! IDK what he offers on the pitch and why he gets picked ahead of Ndombele and Ali always”

Use World Twenty20 to build Ashes momentum – Gough

Darren Gough believes England can use the forthcoming ICC WorldTwenty20 to build vital momentum ahead of Australia’s arrival laterthis summer

Darren Gough believes England can use the forthcoming ICC World Twenty20 to build vital momentum ahead of Australia’s arrival later this summer, and that they will go into the Ashes as favourites afterthe team gelled impressively during the recent Test series victoryover West Indies.Tests and Twenty20s may be chalk and cheese but Gough knows frompersonal experience just how significant a factor momentum can be,after his starring role in England’s crushing 100-run victory in thefirst Twenty20 between England and Australia at the Rose Bowl in 2005.After posting a competitive total of 179, England’s bowlers rippedinto Australia, capturing seven wickets for eight runs in 20deliveries. Gough himself finished with 3 for 16 from three overs and,in one of the contest’s defining moments, sacrificed the chance to gofor a hat-trick when he instead decided to bounce the incoming AndrewSymonds.”I think the image we were trying to set to Australia was that we wereready for a fight,” Gough told Cricinfo. “They tended to be slowstarters, so we went out there pretty pumped, and I was as pumped asanyone. We hit them hard, and it set the tone for the rest of thesummer. It was a good year for England, and for English cricket.””I was thinking about bowling another yorker for the hat-trick, butVaughany [Michael Vaughan] came over to me and said, no, remember thetone we’re trying to set, bowl it short. I said, ‘Don’t worry, that’swhat’s happening’. The passion was running through my veins and thatwas that. I was pumped up and it was a sight that got people rightbehind England.”Four years on, and Gough believes a similar scenario could pan out inthe coming weeks, even though the personnel involved in the Twenty20campaign will be significantly different from the Test side, not leastwith a different captain in Paul Collingwood, who has stepped in inplace of Andrew Strauss.”England have realised you have to pick the best team for the format, then take the captain from those players,” said Gough, who played nopart in the Ashes four years ago, having retired from Test cricket in2003, while his fellow seamer at the Rose Bowl, Jon Lewis, played hisone and only Test the following summer. “It’s about momentum,” headded. “If you can start with a win, things tend to go your way, andEngland have Holland (The Netherlands) in their first game, so they should winconvincingly.”As for any concerns that the country had its priorities skewed, infocussing on the Ashes in July even though a global tournament istaking place in England next week, Gough was unequivocal. “The focusis spot on. We’ve got a big tournament coming up but the Ashes iswhat everyone wants to see, every cricket fan is interested, and thatshows that Test cricket is massively alive. The Twenty20s will beexciting but it’s a short game and you can’t pick a winner. In theAshes, the best team usually wins, and for that reason it’s going tobe a great series.”Since retirement, Gough has his fingers in all sorts of pies, including – no doubt to the amusement of Rod Marsh – Pork Farms, “theofficial snack partner of the 2009 Ashes”. But he doesn’t seeEngland’s attack serving up too many of those in the coming weeks, having been very impressed with the development of James Anderson and Stuart Broad in the recent Tests against West Indies.”Anderson is a top bowler, he’s turning into a very very good bowler,”Gough said. “Broady, meanwhile, is maturing all the time, last yeardidn’t get his dues, but he’s one of the best in the side now anddeserves his starting berth in the Ashes. With [Andrew] Flintoff to come backas well, and good back-up in the likes of [Graham] Onions, [Sajid] Mahmood and[Liam] Plunkett, England have got the men to win the Ashes.”I thought they did well against West Iindies, who were a poor outfitand their body language was terrible, but you still have to beat themand England put in a great performance. I’d have liked to have seenthe batters have more than two knocks each but, as they say, you canonly beat what’s in front of you, and England did that.”As for the Australians, Gough expected them to arrive full of theirusual confidence but suspected an innate weakness might be there tobe exploited. “They’ll come over here with their usual banter andthey’ll believe they can win, but their batting doesn’t have muchdepth, and they don’t have the spinners to worry England.”They’ve picked a side to win in English conditions, and with McDonaldin for Symonds, they’ve gone for a seam-dominated attack. But if theylook around, they’ll admit to themselves that Matthew Hayden, AdamGilchrist and Shane Warne could still walk into that team. Three40-year-olds could still be in their starting line-up, and that’s areal worry for them. It’s also why I think England will win.”

Oko-Flex can save West Ham millions

David Moyes could save West Ham United millions in future transfer windows by unleashing one of his promising academy stars.

Armstrong Oko-Flex signed for the Irons as a free agent during the summer after his contract at Celtic expired, and he has been in fine form for the U23 squad.

He continued to catch the eye this week with yet another goal as Dmitri Halajko’s were defeated by Leicester City on Monday.

The versatile and promising 19-year-old, who can play on the wing or up front, bagged his sixth goal of the 2021/22 campaign and must be on the mind of Moyes heading into a busy fixture list.

Upon signing a professional deal at the London Stadium, Oko-Flex revealed his inspiration to the club’s official website.

“I grew up admiring a few players. Ronaldinho because he was just gifted; Brazilian Ronaldo, who, for a No.9, had everything; and Jay-Jay Okocha, because my parents are originally from Nigeria, and he’s someone I grew up watching on YouTube – he did some crazy things back in the past.

“I also like to entertain, but it’s also about doing it in the right amount. Goals win you games, and I’m an attacker, so goals and assists are very important to me.”

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-west-ham-news-transfer-rumours-the-latest-gossip-and-much-much-more-3” title= “Read the latest West Ham news, transfer rumours, gossip and much more!”]

Meanwhile, during his time in Scotland, the teenage sensation even made two senior appearances for the SPFL giants – former manager Brendan Rodgers, now at the Hammers’ top-flight rivals Leicester City, once dubbed him a “very talented boy” in one interview, via The Sun.

Oko-Flex could be an intriguing option for Moyes and the first-team setup consider, mostly because of his versatility. It’s no secret that the lack option in the final third, with Michail Antonio the only recognised centre-forward.

Whilst players like Andriy Yarmolenko are simply not worth persisting with, particularly when there are promising talents emerging from their exciting Chadwell Heath academy, like the Republic of Ireland U19 international.

Halajko believes his attacking dynamo is “clinical” and that his “finishing is fantastic”, having impressed during friendly with non-league outfit Aldershot Town earlier in the season.

Once on the books at London rivals Arsenal, Oko-Flex would be well worth having in and around the squad, especially with further Europa League and domestic cup competitions on the horizon.

By unleashing this 19-year-old gem into the first-team, Moyes could save GSB and the club millions of pounds.

Former players slam PCB for defeats

Former players have asked senior management within the team to take responsibility for the defeats and resign

Cricinfo staff04-Aug-2009

Zaheer Abbas: “The World Twenty20 win had hid all the weaknesses in the team and the cricket board”•AFP

Former Pakistan players have demanded major changes in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s setup and have asked the senior team management to take responsibility for the defeats in the Tests and ODI series against Sri Lanka and resign. After the high of the World Twenty20 win against the same team in June, Pakistan’s fortunes swung in Sri Lanka when they lost the Tests 2-0 despite finding themselves in strong positions in all three games. They’re already trailing 3-0 in the ODIs, with only pride to play for in the two remaining games.Former captain Aamer Sohail said the decision to experiment with makeshift openers was baffling.”No one, from the board officials to the team management, seems to have a clear plan in mind,” Sohail told AFP. “Some of the decisions make no sense, like two regular openers were sent to Sri Lanka but we used makeshift openers in the series which we have lost now.”Another former captain, Zaheer Abbas, said the blame lay with the PCB. “The World Twenty20 win had hid all the weaknesses in the team and the cricket board,” he said. “Since this board has taken over we have lost the Champions Trophy (hosting rights), we have been stripped of World Cup 2011 matches and we have failed to handle the team, so this is total mismanagement, which is unacceptable.”The coach (Intikhab Alam) must go, and the captain (Younis Khan) also lacks the qualities of a good leader.”Former chief selector Abdul Qadir was unhappy with the nature of the defeats. “They should feel ashamed,” he said. “Defeats are part and parcel of the game, but shameful defeats are unacceptable.”Former wicketkeeper Rashid Latif, however, ruled out changes in management and said the fault lay with the players. “Changes are not the solution,” Latif said. “I think the team needs to go back to basics and there should be no interference in team planning. The team must play to its own plan.” Younis Khan has said the poor domestic structure was to blame.

Rangers: Wilson impressed by Knutsen

An update has emerged on Rangers’ pursuit of a new manager, regarding a possible candidate for the role…

What’s the talk?

According to the Daily Record, 53-year-old Bodo Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen is a coach who has caught Ross Wilson’s eye in his search for Steven Gerrard’s replacement.

The report claims that he is also on Norwich’s shortlist to take over at Carrow Road, whilst the Gers are also plotting talks with ex-Feyenoord man Gio van Bronckhorst.

Dream for Rangers

Wilson could discover a dream Rangers boss in Knutsen with his progressive, front-foot, style and impressive C.V in Norway with Glimt. He broke the goalscoring record in the Norweigan top-flight as his side found the back of the net a whopping 103 times last season as they won the title, whilst his team also beat Jose Mourinho’s Roma 6-1 in the Conference League earlier this term.

This shows that he is capable of setting up a team to play exciting, free-flowing, football to score goals at a ridiculous rate, which could excite Rangers fans and explain why he could be a dream appointment. He could carry on where Gerrard left off and help the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Fashion Sakala and Kemar Roofe thrive, as he has shown that he can organise a team to flourish in front of goal.

Glimt captain Ulrick Saltnes described Knutsen’s style as ‘kamikaze’ and the man himself outlined his demands for the players on the pitch, wanting his side to dominate all aspects of the game. He said:

“Dominating doesn’t just mean scoring but also having the possession of the ball and dictating the rules of the game.

“We want to create a team identity that encompasses everyone; players, staff, managers, fans. We must confront ourselves to be able to create this ‘Bodo model’.”

This goes further to show that he wants his team to play in a defined style and will try to employ a dominant, attack-orientated, system at Ibrox. Therefore, he could be an excellent appointment by Wilson if he is able to translate his success over to Scotland.

The Gers chief should, at the very least, explore the move and see if he is a viable option in the coming days as his background suggests that he could be a great addition to the dugout. Supporters could get excited about the prospect of their team firing in the goals on a consistent basis and winning titles under him, following on from what he has achieved in Norway.

AND in other news, Wilson heading for Rangers disaster over 43y/o boss with 0 trophies, fans surely livid…
