The Athletic’s George Caulkin has delivered some insight from behind-the-scenes about PIF and their current plans for Newcastle United.

What’s the story?

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Not much more than what I’ve already said & written about. Everything is going through PIF & they’re assessing everything, including what would have to happen next. The first step is taking too long though.

“The hope from inside is that within a couple of months the system of making decisions will have settled down. And it needs to – you can’t hang around during transfer windows,” he continued.

“No, I don’t think it’s about bigger names – it’s about right names. Not sure the people they would ideally want are available (and I don’t know who). My argument, the football argument, would be that you just need to take the first decision.”

Fans will be reassured

Make no mistake about it, after completing the takeover a couple of weeks ago, Newcastle fans would surely have been hopeful, if not expecting, entering a new era with a new manager for the weekend game against Tottenham at St James’ Park.

Instead, a whole week of uncertainty that saw reports emerge claiming Bruce would be sacked well ahead of the match didn’t come to fruition, and the Magpies’ new owners watched more of the same as the Tyneside club fell to a disappointing defeat at home.

On Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, both Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville pointed the finger of blame at the new owners and suggested that they had made an early mistake in not sorting out the managerial mess before that Spurs clash.

What Caulkin’s update should do however, is reassure fans that PIF do have a plan at hand, and that once all the early drama and confusion subsides, their judgments can become quicker and clearer.

Clearly, they have a big job on their hands, and it’s no surprise that they want to take their time over making decisions.

But, as Caulkin says, “the first step is taking too long”, and it’s high time they dealt with it.

Perto de estrear pelo Santos, o atacante Nilmar está trabalhando dobrado para acelerar os processos técnico e físico. -Estou treinando com o grupo, mas faço trabalhos a parte para encurtar esse prazo de retorno (era previsto cerca de 40 dias para Nilmar estar 100% recuperado fisicamente). Sinto uma evolução enorme. Me sinto hoje como não me sentia há muito tempo. Eu não tive essa preparação há muitos anos, foi muito importante – concluiu.

O treinador Levir Culpi já afirmou que ainda levará tempo para Nilmar ser relacionado para um jogo. Segundo Levir, ele se impressionou com os treinos, mas não quer “queimar o filme” do atleta, que pode ser melhor preparado e entrar na chance certa para conseguir proporcionar uma boa atuação.

Com gols e bons passes nas atividades coletivas, o atacante foi inscrito na Copa Libertadores, em que o Peixe disputará as quartas de final contra o Barcelona (EQU) e se mostra bem adaptado ao ritmo dos companheiros.

Abdulla, who made his Twenty 20 debut against Australia earlier this year, was rewarded for his outstanding performances in the domestic tournament and for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL with a call-up for the World Twenty20 beginning on June 5 in England.”I believe in learning wherever I go and the IPL is a good learning curve,” he told . “It would have been hard to make a squad of 15 otherwise; the IPL has helped, it has shown I’m capable of performing at a higher level.”I was very excited when I heard I had been chosen for the Twenty20 World Cup and it’s definitely still sinking in. Zaheer Abbas, the former Pakistan captain, has said his country will be better served with a specialist batting coach rather than a sports psychologist to help them perform better and cope with pressure situations, starting from the World Twenty20 in England next month. The Pakistan Cricket Board had, earlier this week, appointed psychologist Maqbool Babri to work with the team in the pre-tournament conditioning camp at a hill resort in Bhurban.”I don’t understand what purpose it will serve to have a sports psychologist give lectures to the players,” Abbas told . “Because it is obvious that the team’s main problem is the batting not clicking consistently as it should. The board should think about having a full-time batting coach with the team. And it is clear their fielding also needs to improve.”The poor batting was primarily responsible for the ODI series defeat against Australia in the UAE recently. They were bowled out for 207, 171 and 197 in the three games they lost and that cost them the series. They were well-placed for victory in the third ODI but collapsed due to shoddy shot selection and lost ten wickets for only 76 runs. They rebounded in the fifth ODI, winning the dead rubber by seven wickets before winning the one-off Twenty20 international.Another former Pakistan international, Mohsin Khan, also didn’t support the idea of hiring a psychologist. ‘These players are not small children but professionals and they should know what they are supposed to do on the field,” Mohsin said. “I belong to the old school of thought and I don’t know if having a sports psychologist giving lectures will really help to improve the performance of these players in the (Twenty20) World Cup.”Pakistan finished runner-up to India in the previous World Twenty20, in South Africa in 2007.
