Carlton Palmer admits the contract situation hanging over Julian Borner and Sheffield Wednesday is “going to get messy”.

The German defender is attempting to force through a move to Hannover 96 following the Yorkshire club’s relegation into League One.

Financial difficulties had seen some members of Wednesday’s squad not paid, resulting in a number of senior players considering handing in their two-week period of written notice.

The PFA have also got involved as it has been reported that players have not been paid either in full or on time for the past three months.

Borner, who made 30 appearances for the Hillsborough club last season, believes he should be able to walk away from Wednesday on a free transfer and is supposedly opening arbitration proceedings as a result of unpaid wages.

Hannover have already agreed a contract with the 30-year-old but Wednesday are holding firm and insist he cannot rip up his deal, which still has a year to run.

Palmer, who had two spells with the Owls during his playing career, does not see how the situation can be resolved amicably.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, he said: “It’s going to get messy because it’s an interpretation. If the players haven’t been paid for a period of time then they are entitled to exercise the right to cancel their contracts.

“The problem is when they have been paid part of their salary. My understanding is that the players have been paid part of their wages. As long as they’ve been paid part of their wages, they’re in a situation where they’re owed money but they can’t cancel their contract.

“Obviously you’re going to get some agents who are going to try to be clever and say he hasn’t been in full so we’re entitled to cancel the contract. My understanding is they can’t do that.”

Richard Walsh10-Aug-2002The Somerset Cricket Museum has very recently been presented with a rare cricket book that was destined for the rubbish bin, and this will shortly be on view to the general public.The book entitled `Cricket’ by W.G.Grace, is number 245 of only 652 copies of the special edition that were produced. It was first published by Arrowsmiths in Bristol in 1891,with each one being signed in ink by the legendary hero of the summer game, and according to cricket booksellers has a market value in the region of £3-400.For many years this copy sat on the shelves of the staff library of Crewkerne Grammar School, which closed its doors for the last time in 1971, to make way for the new comprehensive school in the town.After the school was closed the building was cleared by the new owner Roger Fowler, and the contents of the staff room shelves emptied and placed into tea chests. The building was eventually sold for development into flats on the site.Before he disposed of the contents of the chests however Mr Fowler contacted the Old Boys Association, one of whom went through all of the tea chests to check their contents. As he was doing so he noticed the W.G Grace book and duly rescued it for safe keeping.Old Boy Tim Udall, who is still a resident in the South Somerset town said: "When the School Association held their 500th Anniversary the book came to light and we realised that it was of some historical value. As we don’t have a proper facility to display the book we decided to give the book to the Somerset Cricket Museum on a permanent loan, where everybody will have a chance to look at it."According to a handwritten note from one of the headmasters of Crewkerne Grammar School that is loosely inserted inside the book it was originally owned by A.W.Blake, and presented to the school by the Blake Family several of whom over the years were governors or clerks to the governors of the school.Tim Udall recently visited the Somerset Cricket Museum where he presented the book to the curator Tony Stedall, who told me: "We are very pleased to have the book on permanent loan in the museum, where it will form part of our new display for next season."Somerset Cricket Museum is one of the best of it’s kind in the country, and with it’s ever changing exhibits is well worth a visit. It is open an all match days, and Monday to Friday during the summer months.

According to ESPN Brazil, West Ham United are now leading the race to sign the highly-rated 25-year-old, with fellow Premier League sides Leeds United and Palace also keen to secure his signature.

However, the report claims that the Hammers have moved ahead of their domestic rivals as Pereira wants to play European football next term, something only David Moyes’ men can offer.

Glasgow Rangers ace Kai Kennedy has admitted it would be a “great opportunity” to sign for West Ham after the Hammers were said to have had a bid rejected for the youngster.

The Lowdown: Controversial figure?

Kennedy, who is highly rated at Ibrox, has not had the easiest of times during his so far short career with the 55-time Scottish champions.

He was linked with moves to Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the past (The Daily Record), appeared to be refusing to sign a new deal and, around the same time, seemed to be on the end of criticism from Steven Gerrard (Glasgow Live).

The Latest: West Ham make Kennedy bid

According to Football Insider, the Irons have had a bid of £600,000 rejected for the winger. Speaking to the same outlet, Kennedy said:

“It is extremely flattering that West Ham have made an offer for me and it would be a great opportunity to be able to work with a top manager such as David Moyes, but I am a Rangers player until I am told otherwise.”

The Verdict: Don’t undervalue him

While Kennedy may have had his issues at Ibrox, there is no doubting he is a player with plenty of talent.

He has five career assists to his name, four of which came in 19 matches during his loan spell at Raith Rovers last term, where he also managed one goal (Transfermarkt).

During the first half of the campaign, he was with Inverness Caledonian Thistle on a temporary basis, and manager John Robertson called him a “prodigious talent” (The Athletic).

Aged just 19, Kennedy has plenty of time to develop. The last thing Rangers want to do is let another youth academy product leave before he has had the chance to shine in the first team. Look at Billy Gilmour – he was sold by the Gers as a 15-year-old and has now appeared at the European Championships for Scotland and won the Champions League with Chelsea.

If Kennedy also evolves into a top talent, Rangers must get the money they deserve for his development.

بينما تنتظر جماهير نادي الزمالك، انتهاء الموسم الكروي الحالي وتنفيذ وعد مرتضى منصور رئيس مجلس الإدارة ونجله أمير، مدير الكرة، بإبرام صفقات قوية في سوق الانتقالات الصيفية، يترقب الأهلي على الجانب الآخر، تحركات القلعة البيضاء في هذا الملف، لمحاولة إفساد انضمام أبرز اللاعبين في الدوري المصري إلى ميت عقبة.

لا يخفى على أحد، حاجة الزمالك لإبرام تعاقدات قوية في الموسم الجديد، خاصة أن النادي حُرم من قيد لاعبين في الميركاتو الصيفي والشتوي الماضيين، بقرار من الاتحاد الدولي “فيفا”، إلى جانب رحيل أكثر من لاعب، الأمر الذي أدى إلى نقص شديد في صفوف الفريق الأول، يعاني منه المدير الفني جوسفالدو فيريرا أثناء اختياره للتشكيل وقوائم المباريات.

ويعد رفعت أحد اللاعبين المطلوبين بقوة للعودة إلى صفوف الزمالك في الموسم المقبل، بينما سيسعى الأهلي للانقضاض على الصفقة للفوز بها أو المزايدة على أقل تقدير، لحرمان الأبيض من التعاقد معه.

His performance against Tranmere will have done little to convince the boss that he is ready to lead the line throughout the season.
