Chelsea went into the current matchweek in the Premier League in second place in the table and they are firmly a part of the current title race under Enzo Maresca.
The Blues have won nine and only lost two of their opening 15 matches in the division, and are set to face off against Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
They come into that game off the back of a 3-1 win over Astana in the Conference League on Thursday night, thanks to two goals from Marc Guiu and one from Renato Veiga.
Despite Chelsea’s fantastic form this season, Maresca is reportedly making plans to make further additions to his playing squad in the upcoming transfer windows.
Chelsea eyeing up Bundesliga duo
According to Sky Sports Germany, Chelsea are lining up moves for Borussia Dortmund duo Karim Adeyemi and Gregor Kobel, although they may wait until the summer, rather than swooping for them in January.
The report claims that the German striker has been a long-term target for the Blues, but that other Premier League teams are also keen on securing his services.
It adds that Kobel is also ‘on the list’ for the West London outfit and states that he is an option for them at the end of the season, as they are prepared to wait until next summer to attempt to sign him.

Maresca must, now, push for the board to bring the £144k-per-week shot-stopper to the club because he could come in as a big upgrade on Robert Sanchez.
Why Gregor Kobel would be an upgrade on Robert Sanchez
The Switzerland international’s form in the Bundesliga and the Champions League since the start of last season suggests that he would come in and improve Chelsea’s team.
Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Kobel, who was hailed as “really good” by Dortmund goalkeeping coach Matthias Kleinsteiber, has prevented 5.87 xG in 17 matches in the Champions League and prevented 2.4 xG across 38 appearances in the German top-flight in that time.

As you can see in the table above, Sanchez has only prevented 0.15 xG for Chelsea in the Premier League since the start of last season, whilst he is yet to make his European debut for the Blues.
The Spanish dud has also made a whopping seven errors that have led to shots or goals, whilst Kobel has only made two in 55 Bundesliga and Champions League outings for Dortmund.
These statistics suggest that the 27-year-old Swiss titan is a significantly better shot-stopper who is also far less prone to making huge errors that put his defenders and team in trouble.

Therefore, Chelsea could improve their team by having a more reliable presence between the sticks if they sign Kobel to come in and replace Sanchez as the number one, whether it happens in January or next summer.
It continues NZ’s long trip across Europe, following up from tours to England, Scotland and Ireland

Currently, Netherlands are on tour of New Zealand for a T20I and three ODIs•AFP/Getty Images
New Zealand are set to play two T20Is in Netherlands this August. In an announcement by the two boards, it was confirmed that they will be facing the hosts on August 4 and 6 at the Voorburg Cricket Club in The Hague.”The chance to play the best white-ball teams in the world has always been the goal for this team. To test our young players against them, as well as showcasing our skills in front of our home fans is so extremely exciting,” Netherlands coach Ryan Campbell said. “The Black Caps coming to The Netherlands again shows the respect we are building in world cricket and I hope all Dutch fans come out and enjoy the contest.”New Zealand coach Gary Stead added that Full Member teams playing Associate nations was crucial for the growth of their game.”We’re really excited to be touring the Netherlands,” he said. “Playing against Associate teams as a Full Member nation is a really important part of helping them grow, and that can only benefit the world game long term.”The two teams are also currently engaged in a bilateral series in New Zealand, with Netherlands touring for a one-off T20I and three ODIs. While the T20I was abandoned due to rain, the hosts won the first ODI comfortably to take a 1-0 lead in the series. So far, they have faced each other only five times across formats. The tour of Netherlands continues New Zealand’s trip across Europe, as they are first due to tour England for three Tests starting June 2, followed by three ODIs and T20Is each in Ireland from July 10, after which they visit Scotland for two T20Is and a solitary ODI. And just four days after concluding their Scotland series, they face Netherlands in the first of two T20Is.
Manchester City have endured a torrid run of form that is threatening to derail their season.
Manchester United’s 2-1 victory at the Etihad was City’s fifth league defeat in their last seven games and has left them trailing league leaders Liverpool by 11 points in the Premier League table.
Pep Guardiola’s side were also knocked out of the EFL Cup by Tottenham Hotspur at the fourth round stage and sit in a precarious 22nd position in the Champions League table – just a point above the elimination line.
The start of the season is a far cry from the club’s four Premier League titles in a row and their first Champions League in 2023. Whilst there has been a lot of talk around players such as Phil Foden underperforming, it has been City’s defensive vulnerability that has stood out most to eagle-eyed viewers.
Manchester City defence in turmoil
Man City have conceded 23 goals so far this campaign in their bid to defend their Premier League crown for the fifth consecutive time.
Their defence has been hit with injuries to multiple key players including, Nathan Ake missing 11 games with a hamstring injury and colossal centre-half Ruben Dias absent for seven games with a calf problem.
The above graphic shows that not only have teams been converting high-quality chances against Man City but they have been allowed to create lots of them in the first place – something that has not been the case in recent seasons.
City have conceded an average of 1.44 goals per match in the league this season and kept a clean sheet in just 19% of their games. A stark contrast to the previous season (23/24) where the Citizens conceded just 0.89 goals per match and kept clean sheets in 34% of their matches.
One defender in particular that has seen a dip in form is that of England international John Stones, who has made just seven appearances for City this season and has struggled when given the opportunity.
Academy product could be long-term Stones replacement
It has been noticeable that the form of Stones has not been up to his usual high standards of previous seasons and the England defender is down on a number of key defensive metrics.

The availability and durability of the former Everton man has come into question this season and from the above, it is clear that he is completing fewer 90 minutes this season than in the previous two campaigns. In addition, defensively Stones is also down on the number of tackles and interceptions won, blocks made and aerial duels won.
The England star is not only a defensive rock for City but adds so much to their attacking play too, building from the back with line-splitting passes from deep. The defender is down this season on progressive passes and has his worst pass completion rate in recent seasons.
Fortunately, City may not have to look far in order to replace Stones at the heart of their defence. According to Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, they have an academy prospect in Stephen Mfuni who is ‘one of the most talented teenage CBs in world football.’
In The Pipeline
Football FanCast's In the Pipeline series aims to uncover the very best youth players in world football.
The Wigan-born defender is just 16 years of age but has already made three appearances for the Premier League 2 side and recently earned rave reviews for his performance in the UEFA Youth League in a 3-0 victory over Sparta Praha.
Mfuni can play left or right centre back and his strength in the air and on the ball have been highlighted as key attributes in order to replace current stalwart Stones.
It seems that Pep Guardiola may not have to splash the cash in the transfer market in order to fix his leaky defence as home-grown prospect Mfuni could come into his plans.

Titans, who are assured of top spot on the league table, will look to fine-tune their combination ahead of the playoffs
Hemant Brar18-May-20222:05
Should RCB play with an eye on NRR?
Big pictureThe equation for Royal Challengers Bangalore is simple. Win against Gujarat Titans on Thursday and hope Delhi Capitals lose to Mumbai Indians on Saturday. That’s the only way they can make it to the playoffs of IPL 2022.The task may not be as simple, though. Titans are currently at the top of the points table with ten wins from 13 games. To beat them, Royal Challengers may need one of their big three – Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell – to play a big innings. They will also hope for Josh Hazlewood to come back strongly after registering figures of 4-0-64-0 against Punjab Kings in their previous game.Watch live in the USA
You can watch the match on ESPN+ here.
Titans, meanwhile, are already assured of a top-of-the-table finish in the league stage. They had a bit of a wobble with back-to-back defeats at the start of the month, but with Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha giving them strong starts and Hardik Pandya resuming bowling duties, they have notched up back-to-back wins since. Can they further fine-tune their line-up before the playoffs? Yash Dayal has picked up nine wickets from six games but has conceded 9.38 runs per over. Titans could consider replacing him with Pradeep Sangwan, who played three games when Dayal was out with a niggle and picked up three wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 7.22. They also have the option of bringing back Lockie Ferguson for Alzarri Joseph.Likely XIsGujarat Titans: 1 Shubman Gill, 2 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 3 Matthew Wade, 4 Hardik Pandya (capt), 5 David Miller, 6 Rahul Tewatia, 7 Rashid Khan, 8 R Sai Kishore, 9 Lockie Ferguson/Alzarri Joseph, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Pradeep Sangwan/Yash DayalRoyal Challengers Bangalore: 1 Virat Kohli, 2 Faf du Plessis (capt), 3 Rajat Patidar, 4 Glenn Maxwell, 5 Mahipal Lomror, 6 Shahbaz Ahmed, 7 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 8 Harshal Patel, 9 Wanindu Hasaranga, 10 Mohammed Siraj, 11 Josh HazlewoodHardik Pandya could hold back an over or two of Rashid Khan for Dinesh Karthik•BCCI
Strategy punts Titans could save an over or two of Rashid Khan for Dinesh Karthik. Karthik has helped Royal Challengers finish their innings strongly throughout the tournament but Rashid has dismissed him three times in 28 balls across all T20s while conceding only 30 runs. Royal Challengers might want to bowl Mohammed Siraj mostly through the middle overs. Siraj has an economy rate of 9.80 in the powerplay this season. At the death, it’s 14.75. But he has been one of the most economical bowlers in the middle overs, going for only 6.27 runs per over. Royal Challengers could use him more in that phase, in much the same way Sunrisers Hyderabad do with Umran Malik.Related
Scenarios: All eyes on Capitals and RCB with one round of fixtures remaining
Stats that matter Titans have hit the fewest sixes (59) in the tournament but the most fours (210). Saha has a strike rate of 138.40 in the powerplay this season. In the middle overs, it drops down to 97.53. Dayal has the worst economy rate (10.70) in the powerplay among bowlers who have bowled at least eight overs in that phase in IPL 2022. The second-worst is Joseph at 10.25. Siraj is third on that list. Mohammed Shami has dismissed Kohli five times in 60 balls while giving away 80 runs. Rahul Tewatia has smashed Harshal Patel for 40 runs off 21 balls without getting out. Among batters who have faced at least 50 balls against spin this season, Maxwell has the highest strike rate (200.00).
Sunderland will hope they can remain in sight of the automatic promotion spots up until May, with Regis Le Bris’ side the third and final challenger to Leeds United at the very top of the Championship tree.
Indeed, the impressive Black Cats sit only three points behind Daniel Farke’s precarious table-toppers, having clinched their 14th victory of the season to date when beating relegation-threatened Portsmouth by a solitary goal last match.
Le Bris won’t be a fool though in expecting his side to be able to keep up the pace with the Whites with what he currently has at his disposal, knowing that his squad is somewhat light on its feet owing to injury troubles.
Therefore, the Wearside outfit could snap up a classy operator in the middle of the park this January to boost numbers. Someone who has previously worked alongside the popular Frenchman could arrive…
Sunderland enquire about midfield signing
According to reports from Italy, the second-tier promotion hopefuls have enquired about the availability of AS Roma outcast Enzo Le Fee, with the enquiry an “explicit” request from Le Bris himself.
After all, the 49-year-old played a key role in the midfielder’s development at the Ligue 1 club, with a reunion now potentially on the cards owing to Le Fee’s lack of game-time under Claudio Ranieri.
This could be seen as a coup on the end of the Black Cats, considering the 24-year-old target cost Roma in excess of £20m to pick up just last year.
Now, he could be lining up for Sunderland as they hunt down promotion glory, with his addition to the ranks perhaps seeing him link up with Jobe Bellingham well, alongside offering a more experienced head away from over-relying on the likes of Chris Rigg to deliver the goods.
What Le Fee could offer Sunderland
Described as an “exciting” player by data analyst Ben Mattinson, Le Fee will be one homegrown talent Lorient are surely proud of, alongside once giving a platform to the likes of Illan Meslier who now plays for Sunderland’s promotion rivals in Leeds.

Looking at the table above, his impressive numbers from his final season at the French club – which saw him tally up five goals and five assists – could stand him in good stead to leave a lasting impression at Sunderland, with his adaptability to play all across the central midfield positions a big bonus.
After all, Le Bris has played the likes of Jobe Bellingham deeper in the middle of the park or as a number ten, and he could well do the same with Le Fee, but the new Frenchman might well complement the 19-year-old more by playing further back to enable the in-demand ex-Birmingham City man more freedom in attack.
The Sunderland number seven has a fierce shot like this in his locker, which means he is wasted by playing in a holding role. Meanwhile, Le Fee – based on the table above – can put together better numbers playing in a more reserved part of the pitch.
Yet, he can do a job in attack when needed, with the 24-year-old a far more well-rounded talent than Rigg too in this role, who does have four league goals next to his name for 2024/25, but isn’t the finished article by any stretch of the imagination.
With the starlet now out injured, Le Bris does need some boosts centrally, with a well-known figure to him in Le Fee perhaps giving his Black Cats side an edge in the ongoing promotion tussle.

At least six debutants are expected to feature in South Africa’s first Test in over seven years

Marizanne Kapp, Lizelle Lee and Sinalo Jafta have all been included in South Africa women’s squad to play their first Test in more than seven years, against England later this month. The trio missed out on the white-ball tour to Ireland – Kapp after contracting Covid-19 for the fourth time – but have been named in both the Test and ODI squad for the England series. The T20 squad, along with the group for the Commonwealth Games, will be named next month.South Africa last played a Test against India in Mysore in 2014 and four of the members of that XI – Kapp, Trisha Chetty, Lizelle Lee and Chloe Tryon – are in the current squad. Only one other current South African player has featured in a Test – Shabnim Ismail in 2007 against Netherlands – which means South Africa will field at least six debutants against England in Taunton. Chetty is the only player to have two Test caps.Related

Dane van Niekerk, the other current South African women’s player who has played a Test, remains unavailable for selection as she continues to recover from the ankle injury that has sidelined her since January. She has returned to training with the aim of being available for the T20Is and Commonwealth Games. Masabata Klaas, who injured her shoulder at the World Cup, is also unavailable. Tazmin Brits, Raisibe Ntozakhe, and Delmi Tucker, who are involved in the ongoing series against Ireland, will return home.South Africa will play a red-ball warm-up match next week, in preparation for the Test.”With the red ball, the main thing is to find our feet as a team again in the format and we take it one day at a time, then we can only progress into it and players can have an opportunity to go into a three-day prep,” coach Hilton Moreeng said. “Those that haven’t had the opportunity when we were back home can also start getting their aim of the red ball. Post that we know we are heading into ODI cricket and T20Is to build up into the Commonwealth Games.”South Africa beat Ireland 2-1 in the T20I series and lead the one-day series, which is part of the ICC Women’s Championship, 2-nil. Their matches against England do not form part of the Women’s Championship (South Africa are due to host England for Women’s Championship matches) but are an opportunity to solidify their strategy as a squad.”We are happy that we could come to Ireland and be able to play in these conditions which are similar to where we are going to. It has been very good and the exciting thing is that the crop of youngsters have started to put in the right performances. Now that we are going to England, we know that we are going to start with a format that most of them haven’t played in a while other than the preparation that we had, so it is exciting times, especially as a young cricketer in the squad,” Moreeng said.”We are up against a very competitive team, a team that plays well in their conditions. It’s going to be tough as we go along but at the end of the day, we are excited with the group that we have and we now have an opportunity against the hosts to be able to win a series in England.”South Africa squad for England tour (Test and ODIs): Anneke Bosch, Trisha Chetty (wk), Nadine de Klerk, Lara Goodall, Shabnim Ismail, Sinalo Jafta, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, Lizelle Lee, Sune Luus (capt), Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Andrie Steyn, Chloé Tryon, Laura Wolvaardt
