Glasgow Rangers head coach Philippe Clement looked to refresh his playing squad at Ibrox during the recent summer transfer window, which closed last month.

The Gers boss allowed a number of experienced first-team players to move on from Ibrox, including Connor Goldson, John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, Todd Cantwell, and Kemar Roofe.

Those exits paved the way for the likes of Hamza Igamane, Vaclav Cerny, Jefte, Connor Barron, and Robin Propper, among others, to come in and bolster the Rangers squad.

However, there is at least one player whom the Belgian manager must finally move on after failing to ditch him from the club in the summer window.

Latest on Ianis Hagi's future

Romanian outlet SpotMedia, via the Daily Record, claims that Ianis Hagi is open to moving on from Rangers when the transfer window opens in January.

The report claims that the Romania international dug his heels in over a move away from Ibrox in the summer, as he wanted to stay and fight for his place in Glasgow.

However, he is one appearance away from a wage increase, with 99 games played for Rangers to date, and that has prevented him from being part of the group in the season so far under Clement.

SpotMedia now states that Hagi rejected a number of opportunities to leave on loan and is now open to leaving on a permanent basis in the next transfer window.

Clement must now finally ditch the £21k-per-week dud in the upcoming January window, because it has become clear that he will not feature for the first-team due to the clause in his contract.

Why Rangers should cash in on Ianis Hagi

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has not played a single minute of action for Rangers in the 2024/25 campaign, since returning from his loan spell with Alaves last term.

Hagi was sent out on loan to the LaLiga outfit by Michael Beale in the summer of 2023, as the Romanian whiz looked to recover from a long-term knee injury.

The former Genk starlet missed a staggering 69 competitive matches for the Light Blues between January 2022 and January 2023 and he has struggled to get his career back on track since.

As you can see in the table above, the long-term knee injury has, unsurprisingly, had a significant impact on the effectiveness of his performances on the pitch.

Hagi has not offered as much of a threat as either a scorer or a creator of goals for Rangers, or Alaves last season, since his length absence, having produced an eye-catching 36 goal contributions in 86 games for the Gers prior to that.

When you couple that with his £21k-per-week wages, which would rise with one more appearance for the club, then it makes sense for Clement to finally ditch him in the January window – taking advantage of the player now being open to a move away from Ibrox.

Birmingham Phoenix claimed their first win of the tournament after prevailing over the Manchester Originals in a spin-dominated contest at Emirates Old Trafford. Phoenix only managed to score at slightly above a run a ball through their innings, but a total of 113 proved more than enough as the home side were throttled in the chase despite Harmanpreet Kaur’s unbeaten 49 off 47.At halfway, the Originals were happy with their work, with Emma Lamb and Sophie Ecclestone sharing five of the nine wickets to fall. Amy Jones top-scored for Phoenix with 31 from 17 but her dismissal by Ecclestone from the 68th ball left the visitors 79 for 7 and in danger of being bowled out inside their 100. It took a scrappy stand of 28 off 25 between Gwen Davies and Issy Wong to lift the innings into three figures.But Phoenix defended the wide open spaces of Old Trafford tenaciously. Kirstie Gordon struck twice with her left-arm spin in the powerplay, on the way to 3 for 14 from 20, and the rest of the attack played their part in limiting the Originals to just four boundaries through the course of their innings. But even in a small chase, the sluggish nature of the pitch meant Phoenix were always tugging at the Originals’ heels. The start of Phoenix’s fightback came with the bat. William Saliba’s performances for Arsenal over the past two seasons have seen him attract plenty of attention from some of the biggest clubs in world football, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain included.

Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger recently revealed his admiration for the Arsenal star. During an appearance on The Inside Scoop podcast, Rudiger was asked to name his top three defenders in the world right now. The German replied: “Saliba, and I like Gabriel from Arsenal as well.”

He then went on to hint that Saliba could one day move to Real Madrid if he continues playing the way he is: “I am not scaring anybody but at the end of the day, it’s clear, if he keeps doing what he’s doing.”

This follows reports in the last few weeks that Florentino Perez wants to bring Saliba to Madrid, while PSG were also said to be preparing an £83m bid after the two sides clashed in the Champions League – although it wouldn’t take an expert to tell you Arsenal would reject that sort of number fairly quickly.

Fortunately for the Gunners and their fans, though, the Frenchman doesn’t see his future anywhere but at The Emirates. At least that’s according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who on Sunday provided an update on Saliba’s future.

“I can say there is absolutely nothing going on with Saliba and any other club,” Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing. “Back in the summer we had rumours about Saliba and PSG, and about Spanish clubs, but the reality is that he never considered leaving Arsenal. He extended his contract in summer 2023, and he remains very happy with life at the club, it’s fantastic for him there.”

The reporter also revealed exactly why the defender is so happy, pointing to the ambition of the club, something which is sure to be music to the ears of fans in north London: “Saliba can see the ambition under manager Mikel Arteta, and he can see how important he is in the project.”

Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing that it’s only natural for Saliba to be given praise from other defenders, but that he would see it as a “compliment” and “nothing more than that”.

Jurrien Timber also loving life at Arsenal

Saliba isn’t the only Arsenal defender who is currently loving life in North London. Jurrien Timber is too. Timber, 23, joined Arsenal in the summer of 2023 from Ajax, but was forced to sit out the majority of his debut season at The Emirates with injury.

This term, however, he’s been a regular feature in the Gunners’ defence, having made seven appearances so far in all competitions, including starting five of Arsenal’s seven Premier League matches.

Speaking to the press before Arsenal’s recent 2-0 win over PSG in the Champions League, the Dutchman revealed his joy at finally being able to play regularly for the Gunners.

“It helped a lot being comfortable with the team, me getting to know them and them getting to know me,” he explained. “I just wanted to stay involved, I was looking at them from a distance, it was amazing to see them and I wanted to be a part of that. Now I’m part of it and I’m really grateful.”

After a stuttering start, defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders got their CPL 2021 campaign back on track with a commanding 27-run win over St Lucia Kings. Two days back, Knight Riders had lost a thrilling chase by five runs against Kings, but there were no slip-ups in this game. First, Kieron Pollard and Tim Seifert had an end-overs blitz that lifted Knight Riders to 158 for 7, a steep total on a slow pitch. Then the bowlers tied down the Kings batters with accuracy and guile, keeping them to 131 for 7.Kings get over-rate penalty

St Lucia Kings had a 0.05 reduction in their net run rate after they were adjudged to be one over behind the required rate in the match against Trinbago Knight Riders. Captain Faf du Plessis – who accepted the charge – was also fined as per the rules.

Kings had made two changes to the side that won the last game. Samit Patel, fresh off a successful stint in the Hundred, was out of quarantine and into the squad, while Kesrick Williams came in based on the conditions: a fresh pitch from the one used in the previous eight CPL 2021 games which had more grass. Williams had a successful outing, picking up 4 for 24.Put in to bat, Knight Riders had a sluggish start, punctuated by regular wickets. The lack of pace in the surface meant none of the batters found fluency. The dawdling run rate also led to wickets as they tried to hit out. Knight Riders kept Seifert, who nearly won them the last match, at No. 6 but he was in as early as the 12th over, joining Pollard. While both men were initially unable to find the big hits, their boundary-hitting ability meant the longer they stayed in, the greater the chances for a grandstand finish.The shackles were slipped loose after Knight Riders were 81 for 4 in 14 overs. They were completely broken in a 21-run 19th over, by Wahab Riaz, that lasted ten balls. The bowler was lucky he bowled only ten balls, with the fifth legal ball not ruled a wide despite being well away from Seifert. In a seeming protest, Pollard walked across all the way to stand at midwicket at the non-striker’s end, before coming back to a more regular spot.The drama notwithstanding, Knight Riders plundered 77 runs in the last six overs to finish on a high.Kings needed to be quickly off the blocks to challenge the total, but much like in the first innings, the ball wasn’t coming onto the bat comfortably. Andre Fletcher stayed the course of the innings, but no one apart from him made more than 15. Crucially, four of the top six scored at less than a run-a-ball while Tim David, hero of the victory in the last match, was out first ball, nicking Ravi Rampaul behind after being held back to No. 6 and coming in only in the 15th over. Rampaul struck thrice in eight balls to dismantle Kings’ middle order, as their hopes of a late surge evaporated.Fletcher stayed unbeaten on a 55-ball 81 but in the last quarter of the chase, it was only about reducing the margin of defeat.

Secure all three points against Kieran McKenna’s side and any concerns that those in Merseyside are destined for a place in the Championship will become significantly eased, with Sean Dyche’s side instead on their way towards the comforts of mid-table. Suffer defeat, meanwhile, and their recent progress will come to an undeniable halt and rumours over Dyche’s job security will only increase.

Ever since the pending takeover of the Friedkin Group, the former Burnley boss has seemingly been a man under pressure amid reports that the new owners have turned their attention towards the likes of Maurizio Sarri and even Jose Mourinho. But Dyche may not be the only one heading for the exit door.

As per recent reports, Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be on his way out of Goodison Park, with his contract set to expire next summer, but that exit is now unlikely to come courtesy of one European giant.

According to GiveMeSport, Juventus have now ditched their interest in Calvert-Lewin in favour of signing Beto from Everton as early as the January transfer window. The forward only arrived in Merseyside in the summer of 2023, but has failed to make his mark ever since and may now be heading for the exit door in a shock move to one of Italy’s biggest clubs. Falling upwards, Beto’s exit would suit all parties at this stage.

Having started none of Everton’s first seven games, if any player needs a move away from Goodison Park it is Beto. The former Udinese striker has simply never looked like taking the reigns from Calvert-Lewin to lead Dyche’s frontline, with just six goals in 43 appearances representing a transfer flop rather than star signing.

Amid such struggles, Juventus’ reported interest has certainly come as a surprise. It must be said that if Beto does manage to seal a move to the Serie A giants after failing to steal the headlines at Everton, it should be seen as his best possible move and one that would see the 26-year-old defy the odds to fail upwards.

The rumours also create further question marks over Calvert-Lewin’s future. The Everton academy graduate, compared to Beto, has the quality to make such a move, yet those in Italy seemingly prefer his deputy rather than signing Dyche’s main man himself.

Whether that twist keeps Calvert-Lewin at Everton remains to be seen, however, as his current contract continues to tick down and the rumours surrounding his future persist ahead of 2025.
