Drew Ginn’s first significant move as the new high-performance supremo for Cricket Australia has been to sever a key link to the Pat Howard era by moving on Darren Holder, the Brisbane-based elite coaching manager who had helped the governing body take a top-down approach to the way the nation’s best cricketers were mentored over the past five years.Under Howard, some states paid far closer attention to the approaches and instructions of CA than others, with Victoria and Tasmania – where Ginn was the head of high performance for two years – among the two most vocal conscientious objectors.Holder, who was informed of the decision to make him redundant shortly after the conclusion of the Ashes series, had helmed numerous projects geared at developing coaches at both national and domestic levels, with his ideas not always taken to kindly by the state associations.He was instrumental in projects like an American study tour last year, when the national men’s coach Justin Langer, men’s Test captain Tim Paine, plus Howard and former CA chief executive James Sutherland spent time with organisations such as Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys.Another of Holder’s initiatives was to help link up Langer with American coaching expert and academic Wade Gilbert, who offered a useful perspective to the new coach and his support staff last year when they were finding their feet in the wake of the Newlands scandal.As recently as May this year, Holder had hosted a high-performance coaching conference at the National Cricket Centre in which the likes of Dan Cullen, Jono Dean, Jodie Fields, Alex Pyecroft and Clive Rose were taken through a week of lectures and training sessions.Nevertheless, CA chief executive Kevin Roberts had made plain that the governing body would be taking a more federal and less prescriptive approach to all of its functions after last year’s wide-ranging and ultimately damning cultural review, presented by The Ethics Centre, and Ginn’s move is believed to have been welcomed by the state associations as a further indication that coaches will in future be schooled at domestic level before graduating to the national team.Ryan Harris looks on•Getty Images

Langer himself was an embodiment of this, having coached Western Australia for six years prior to replacing Darren Lehmann, while the promotion of Tasmania coach Adam Griffith to be a key lieutenant and bowling coach during this year’s World Cup campaign in England was another.Ben Oliver, who took over as the head of national teams when Howard’s former role was split in two, is seeking out replacement assistant coaches for David Saker and Brad Haddin, who left Langer’s side in February and September respectively. Michael Hussey and Ryan Harris are set to be part of the coaching staff for the T20Is against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, while former West Indies and South Africa coach Ottis Gibson is reportedly in the running to be Langer’s assistant on a longer-term basis.With CA currently also on the lookout for a selector to join Langer and Trevor Hohns – out of contract next year – on the national panel, Roberts has said that closer relationships and better communication between CA and the states was vital, something that applies as much to coaches as it does to selectors and state and national levels.”The main thing I would say is certain is that we need to deepen the links through the state system and domestic competitions and make sure that we’ve got the best possible view of all players who are in contention to play,” Roberts said last month. “What sort of form are they in, how’s their physical health, how’s their mental well-being. That’s a key consideration these days in all walks of life and the same certainly goes for players.”One of the benefits of splitting the old role and having Ben Oliver playing the national teams role and Drew Ginn the high-performance role working with the states is Drew can then work with the states and make sure we’ve got a very clear overview of the top ‘x’ number of players, their position in terms of form, physical and mental well-being and everything else that contributes to how they’re going as a player. I’m really looking forward to that coming to fruition too.”Among Roberts’ first moves when named as chief executive in place of Sutherland was to hasten the departure of Howard and remove another senior executive in Ben Amarfio, by way of emphasising change in the organisation both internally and to the rest of the cricket community. This is another positive update for Liverpool, at a time when supporters are gearing up for the exit of Klopp, suggesting that life without him may end up being more bearable than many fans fear.

Regret from an uncharacteristically careless early swipe in the first innings led Babar Azam to a second Test hundred, cementing his growing reputation among the world’s foremost all-format batsman. Azam’s hundred, alongside Mohammad Rizwan’s 95, provided some resistance on the fourth day at the Gabba, though ultimately not nearly enough to prevent an innings defeat, and a 13th straight loss in Australia.Azam drove expansively at a wide delivery from Josh Hazlewood just four balls into his innings on the first day, part of a post-lunch collapse that wasted a sound start and eventually saw Pakistan fall to a distinctly underwhelming 240 all out. That dismissal was not only out of sync with his white-ball prowess but also a burgeoning body of Test performances.So good has his white-ball game been that it sometimes overlooks his steady rise in Tests. Since the start of 2018, he is Pakistan’s leading scorer in the format. An overall Test average of 36.21 masks that surge: he is averaging 50.88 since 2018 and has seen his Test average rise from less than 24 at that point. No Pakistani batsman has more than his nine 50-plus scores in that run, which includes two hundreds, a 99 (also against Australia, last season) and an electric battle or two with Dale Steyn.He came to these shores as Pakistan’s T20I captain and runs in the three-match series as well as in the warm-up games meant expectations going into Brisbane were high. No less an authority than Ricky Ponting had identified him as the one batsmen he wanted to watch this series.”There was no pressure [around the hype],” Azam said. “That is my shot [the drive he edged first up] but I went and played it too early, which I shouldn’t have done. I had a lot of regrets about that. So I practiced a lot on leaving balls that are slightly wide, and I applied it to my second innings. I went and took an unnecessary chance early on in my first innings and I shouldn’t have done that.”The discipline second time around was notable, not least in surviving a testing early spell from Hazlewood, who has dismissed him five times so far in Tests. But for much of the rest of it, he moved unperturbed to a second hundred, an innings stuffed full of not only the off-side whips and drives on which he has built his reputation but also an accomplished technical base.”I focussed a lot on my concentration, especially after I reach 50,” Azam said. “I want to look at how I can make it a big knock. So I try to maintain the same focus for the second 50 as I do for the first. I didn’t work separately with anyone. Test cricket teaches you all this. When I was failing to convert [earlier in his career], I sat and analysed why I am flopping. I just changed my mind-set and have given 200% on my concentration.”Inevitably and understandably given he is Pakistan’s best batsman, there will be discussion at some point about Azam moving up the order. He has moved up and down, beginning his Test career at No. 4, moving up one spot immediately before eventually moving down the order to where he is now: mostly at No. 5, with occasional forays at six. His highest average is from six – nearly 45 – but he won’t stay down there long.”When I started Test cricket I had no number since Younis and Misbah were still around,” Azam said. “At times I would also bat five or six. I batted No. 3 when I came to Australia last and then went off to No. 4. It’s not like they didn’t give me a number. It was based on the team’s requirement and the plan. I don’t ask for a number to bat at. My job is to perform regardless of where I bat.”Not that there is much of a sample yet to pick from but Azam did agree his hundred here was his best – or, more accurately, the better of his two Test hundreds thus far. “You can say that (it was my best). Scoring runs in Australia is very difficult. They play very well and bowl really well in their home conditions. To perform against them you get extra confidence, which I’ve got from scoring this hundred.”

O documento será entregue à direção da CBF em uma reunião nesta tarde, na sede da entidade. O desejo é organizar a competição a partir do ano que vem.

O único clube que não assinou o documento foi o Sport, mas não por oposição à ideia. O Leão está sem presidente porque Milton Bivar renunciou nesta terça-feira e não há uma nova data para nova eleição.

Está marcada para esta tarde a reunião dos clubes com a nova direção (que tem como presidente em exercício Antonio Carlos Nunes). Haverá outros temas em pauta, mas a criação da liga é vista como a mais relevante por dirigentes dos clubes, que, por sua vez, pedem mais espaço nas decisões tomadas na CBF.

Os clubes participam da Assembleia Geral Eleitoral, que se reúne para escolher o presidente e os vices. E seu peso nas votações. As 27 federações têm peso 3 (portanto, juntas são 81), enquanto os votos dos 20 clubes da Série A têm peso 2 (40) e os votos dos clubes da Série B têm peso 1 (que, somando, chega a 20). Há uma discussão desta concentração de poder.

De acordo com o Artigo 24 do estatuto da CBF, há necessidade daaprovação da Assembleia Geral Administrativa, retirando o poder das federações estaduais.

Nkounkou played 23 times during his stint in the Belgian Pro League before two more temporary spells away from Goodison Park in the following season.

He joined Cardiff City for the first half of the campaign, but it was his period at Saint-Étienne that caught the eye and saw the youngster make his first breakthrough in professional football.

The French left-back made 20 appearances between January and May, scoring six times and providing eight assists in Ligue 2 – a remarkable return for a defender.

His sensational form for the French outfit saw the club decide to permanently purchase Nkounkou, with the 23-year-old joining Saint-Étienne for just £1.8m last summer.

Less than a year after his £1.8m departure from the Toffees, defender Nkounkou has seen a rapid rise in his market value after a shock move to Germany.

Just a couple of weeks after his permanent move to Saint-Étienne, the youngster completed a £9.4m move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, with Everton selling the Frenchman at a bargain given his recent transfer fee.

He's now valued at £17m, as per CIES Football Observatory, with the left-back's value receiving an 844% increase from the £1.8m fee Everton sold him for last summer.

Nkounkou has since registered three goals and three assists for Frankfurt following his move, with the 23-year-old evidently enjoying life away from Goodison Park.

Given his form and rapid increase in market value, Sean Dyche's side must wish they kept hold of their former talent, with Nkounkou potentially providing valuable squad depth at left-back in a season where the club are battling relegation once more.

He's shown he's capable of producing consistently in one of Europe's biggest divisions, with the Toffees potentially living to rue their decision to sell him for a cut price.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan is hopeful that the Bangladesh team will get security clearance from the government to tour Pakistan next month for a series comprising three T20Is and two Tests. However, he also said that there remained a couple of more steps that needed to be taken before a final decision could be arrived at.Last week, BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury had said that the board was expecting a decision from the government imminently, but that time was running out. However, Hassan struck a more positive tone on Saturday.”We had written to the government about our security clearance for Pakistan,” Hassan said. “We had sent a women’s team and an Under-16 team previously. We don’t have the clearance for the senior men’s team yet. Security is paramount even if it is for an Under-12 side.
