Most famous fans: Which celebrities support Brighton?

You always expect celebrities to follow the big clubs, clubs that match their lavish lifestyles, but some just love football. Brighton may well be one of the Premier League’s best sides, but for a long time they struggled.

From Musicians to newsreaders, Football Fancast has taken a look at Brighton & Hove Albion’s most famous fans.

Fatboy Slim

Job: Musician

Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, shares a deep relationship with Brighton & Hove Albion. Cook is not just a passive fan; he's a passionate supporter who has actively contributed to the club's culture, such as unveiling their shirt.

Born on July 31, 1963, in Bromley, England, he's the maestro behind iconic tracks like "Praise You" and "The Rockafeller Skank."

Cook's love for the club is evident through his attendance at games and even DJing at the Amex Stadium. In 2015, he held an exclusive concert at the Amex Stadium, drawing thousands of fans from all over the world to the little seaside town.

Jon Snow

Job: Retired newsreader

No, we're not talking about the Jon Snow from "Game of Thrones," who stands around looking miserable but the original Jon Snow, the now retired newsreader. While he may not be a die-hard Brighton fan, he has demonstrated a genuine affection for the club throughout his career.

Through his career as a newsreader, Jon Snow has had a ringside seat to the club's ups and downs, celebrating their triumphs and empathizing with their struggles. His fondness for Brighton is well known.

With Brighton now in the Premier League under the guidance of Roberto de Zerbi, Jon Snow undoubtedly finds joy in watching the Seagulls take on the big boys.

Simon Cowell

Job: TV Personality

Simon Cowell, the famous music mogul and television personality, has made it onto the list of notable Brighton & Hove Albion supporters, although his connection to the club is more of a passing interest. Cowell is renowned for his work on popular shows like Pop Idol and The X Factor. But, he has confessed that he doesn't have the same level of die-hard fandom that some supporters possess.

Although it's unlikely you'll spot Simon Cowell in the stands, scarf-wrapped and downing pints with the fans, we live in hope that when he's channel-surfing and stumbles upon a Brighton match, he might just stick around to watch.

Cowell's fame in the music industry is undeniable, having played a significant role in bringing popular music and numerous boy/girl bands to the masses. His commitment to securing Christmas number ones is maybe a little over the top.

It may take some silverware to persuade Cowell to turn up to the AMEX, but you never know. Perhaps Tony Bloom can persuade him with the tale of how he fleeced Chelsea for Graham Potter.

Jamie Theakston

Job: TV Personality

“Who’s Jamie Theakston?” we hear you ask, well, we’re glad you did. He’s a very successful ex-cricketer, TV and radio host, most famous for his Heart Breakfast show with Amanda Holden. He also seems like a very good bloke.

While Jamie Theakston's fame spans various forms of entertainment, his beautiful heart belongs to football. His passion for the sport extends beyond Brighton & Hove Albion. He has an impressive history of charity work, and he's notably taken part in Soccer Aid, representing England in the charity football event.

Given his busy schedule, Theakston may not make it to as many Brighton matches as he'd like, but there's no doubt he'll be in around should the Seagulls get their hands on a trophy. His presence at such a time would be a testament to his unwavering support for the club and his genuine love for the beautiful game.

Des Lynam

Job: Retired TV presenter and commentator

Des Lynam, the legendary ex-TV presenter and commentator, possesses a distinctive charm, and one of his signature features is a finely groomed moustache. His enduring presence in the British media landscape spans decades, starting in 1968 and continuing until his retirement in 2013.

Lynam's connection with Brighton & Hove Albion is deeply rooted in his love for the club and the city. He lives in Sussex, keeping himself as close to the Seagulls as he comfortably can without losing his entire life to the AMEX Arena. The club holds a special place in his heart, so much so that he has received offers to join the board, though he's chosen to resist those offers for now.

Just like fellow Brighton fan Jon Snow, Des Lynam has experienced the highs and lows of supporting the Seagulls. He's undoubtedly witnessed the club's trials and tribulations, so let’s hope he gets to see them lift a trophy.

Ralph Brown

Job: Actor

Ralph Brown, the versatile British actor, has an extensive filmography that spans iconic roles, including Danny in "Withnail & I," Leo in "Killing Bono," and Bob in "The Boat that Rocked." While his acting career has taken him to diverse settings, Ralph's true passion lies with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite his impressive cinematic achievements, Ralph's heart is firmly rooted in football. He's a dedicated supporter of Brighton, often found cheering them on whenever he gets the chance. His love for the Seagulls is genuine and unwavering, although he occasionally jokes that he'd prefer to be at the stadium instead of on a film set, even if that set is a water tank with Halle Berry in "Dark Tide."

Unable to attend matches while residing in New York, he fondly reminisces about his first Brighton match in 1971, an experience that left a lasting impression. Although he's now living stateside, Ralph continues to find ways to balance his acting career with his love for the club.

Rag ‘n’ Boneman

Job: Musician

Rag 'n' Bone Man, whose real name is Rory Charles Graham, shares a strong and genuine connection with Brighton & Hove Albion that goes beyond just casual fandom. Born in Uckfield, a town near Brighton, he has long been associated with the vibrant music and arts scene of the city.

Rag 'n' Bone Man is not only a well-known musician with hits like "Human" but also an avid supporter of the Seagulls. The fact that he's a local talent has made him popular with members of the community he calls home.

As a prominent figure in the music industry and a devoted Brighton fan, Rag 'n' Bone Man's relationship with the Seagulls is a heart-warming testament to the fact that wherever you ed up, you’ll always support your club.

Robert Bathurst

Job: Actor

Robert Bathurst, the accomplished, classically trained British actor best known for his roles in popular TV series like "Cold Feet" and "Downton Abbey," has a notable connection to Brighton & Hove Albion, a club that has a special place in his heart.

Bathurst's association with the Seagulls goes beyond typical celebrity fandom. Unfortunately, like most celebrity fans, it’s unlikely you’ll see him rocking up at the AMEX too much.

While he may be recognized for his diverse acting roles, including theatre performances and films, Bathurst's passion for Brighton & Hove Albion is unwavering. He trots the globe, but it very vocal about his love for the club.

Robert Bathurst's connection with the club is not just a celebrity endorsement; it's a genuine expression of his affinity for the city and its footballing traditions.

Mark Williams

Job: Actor

Supremely talented British Actor, Mark Williams, has lit up both stage and screen with his remarkable performances. He’s also apparently a Brighton fan. Born on August 22, 1959, in Bromsgrove, England, he's known for his versatile roles in TV shows like "The Fast Show," where his humor and quick wit shone.

However, Williams skyrocketed to global recognition as Arthur Weasley in the "Harry Potter" film series, winning the hearts of millions with his endearing portrayal of the lovable wizard. He's also made a mark in detective dramas, playing Father Brown in the popular TV series.

Williams is said to be a very kind man considering Brighton are such a wholesome club, it feels right that he supports them.

Robert Kazinsky

Job: Actor

Robert Kazinsky, the ruggedly handsome up-and-coming British actor is another Brighton fan. He's best known for his roles in popular TV series and movies, but also has a love for football.

Kazinsky gained recognition for his role as Sean Slater in the long-running British soap opera "EastEnders." Much like the club he loves, he made it from obscurity to the big leagues.

He has since ventured into Hollywood, starring in blockbusters like "Pacific Rim" and "Warcraft,". He’s the Lewis Dunk of action movies, does a great job and is criminally underrated.

Just like Brighton, the only way is up for Kazinsky. Maybe one day he’ll be at the AMEX, showing off an Oscar, or perhaps more likely, a Golden Globe.

From the music maestro Fatboy Slim to the distinguished newsreader Jon Snow (again, not the "Game of Thrones" character), these famous faces have shown genuine affection for Brighton & Hove Albion.

These famous faces may have achieved stardom in various fields, but their love for little ol’ Brighton & Hove Albion is a reminder that the beautiful game knows no boundaries.

A final

Schutt, Healy complete rout of Pakistan

Australia romped to victory in just 10.2 overs after Pakistan limped 97 for 8 on the back of four run-outs in the third and final T20I in Malaysia

ESPNcricinfo staff29-Oct-2018International Cricket Council

Alyssa Healy’s bruising unbeaten 41-ball 67 helped Australia wipe off their 98-run target in only 10.2 overs to complete a 3-0 whitewash of Pakistan.Healy, whose only single-digit score on tour came in the second T20I, finished the series with two half-centuries. Ashleigh Gardner, who struck a career-best 63 not out in the first T20I, was at the other end when the winning runs were scored. This completed an all-win series across formats for Australia ahead of their departure to the Caribbean for the Women’s World T20 next month, where they’re grouped alongside Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan and India.Put in, Pakistan stuttered to lose three wickets in the Powerplay. Aliya Riyaz and Bismah Maroof, the captain, stitched together 49-run stand for the fourth wicket, the highest of the innings, before it came tumbling down. Maroof, the top scorer with 34, was run out in the 17th over to leave Pakistan on 84 for 5 with 21 balls to bat out.Maroof’s was one of the four run-outs that hampered Pakistan’s progress. They could manage just 13 more off the remaining deliveries. Megan Schutt, the new-ball bowler, was the most economical, picking 2 for 15 off her four overs.Australia’s chase was never in doubt as Beth Mooney and Healy blitzed their way to a 60-run opening stand before Natalia Pervaiz struck in the eighth over. It was to be Pakistan’s only moment of cheer on the field.

3 strikers Sunderland could sign to finally replace Ross Stewart

Sunderland, despite losing their former talisman in Ross Stewart this summer to new divisional rivals Southampton, are dreaming of a Premier League return already into the relative infancy of this season – the Black Cats occupying the final playoff spot in the Championship after 16 matches played, Tony Mowbray's youthful side exciting and enthralling Stadium of Light supporters with memorable victories already.

Big wins against the likes of the aforementioned Saints and Birmingham City were secured without an out-and-out striker even getting on the score sheet – the midfielders all getting in on the action in the 5-0 win over Russell Martin's Southampton, including young Black Cats sensation Chris Rigg who rounded off the emphatic win with the fifth goal on the day.

Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg.

Despite the rest of the team getting in on the goalscoring action, Sunderland could look to this upcoming January transfer window as a way to boost their forward line and add reinforcements up top.

Arguably, Mowbray has never replaced the out-going prolific nature of Stewart – the Scotsman scoring 40 goals in 80 appearances for Sunderland, before moving on this summer.

Here are three strikers Mowbray could look to bring into the club to finally fill the gap left behind by Stewart…

1 Luciano Rodriguez

Luciano Rodriguez for Uruguay.

Rumours keep pointing in the direction of Luciano Rodriguez joining the Stadium of Light this January, the young Argentinian forward already being billed as a like-for-like Stewart replacement.

The Uruguayan youngster is impressing in his native country with Liverpool Montevideo currently, scoring seven times from 28 games in all competitions.

Deployed as a right winger and a centre forward for his club, Rodriguez's potential addition to the squad in this transfer window could also give Mowbray another option down the wings if Jack Clarke was tempted by moving on to a Premier League suitor, as has been reported since the summer market.

Rodriguez also fits the mould of what Sunderland like to attract with arrivals into the building – boasting an average age of 23.3 on the pitch this season, the division's youngest – so it wouldn't be a surprise to see this move come to fruition in the months to come.

2 Colby Bishop

Sunderland could, however, go down the route of bringing in an established and experienced EFL sharpshooter on the contrary, Colby Bishop more than capable of making the step up to the Championship based on his goalscoring exploits in League One so far this season.

Playing in the lower reaches of the English football pyramid with Accrington Stanley before making the major move to Portsmouth this summer, Bishop has taken to the pressure of being the leading man for a League One promotion hopeful in his stride.

The 27-year-old attacker has amassed ten goals and two assists from 16 League One games to date, scoring in his last two matches for John Mousinho's pace-setters as Pompey aim for promotion to the second tier.

Bishop could fast-track his way into the Championship if Sunderland gamble on his services, the ex-Accrington man worthy of making a name for himself in the division above.

3 Lawrence Shankland

Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland.

Sunderland could also explore another Scottish option in attack in an attempt to replicate the success of the Stewart deal, the Black Cats signing their former number 14 from Ross County.

Mowbray could look to Heart of Midlothian for a potential new recruit this time in Lawrence Shankland, Hearts' 28-year-old attacker a revelation in all competitions for the Scottish Premiership side so far this season.

The 28-year-old wouldn't fit Sunderland's preference on bringing in young gems to the Stadium of Light, but Shankland's unerring accuracy in front of goal could see the Black Cats bring him in regardless – scoring ten goals from 19 Hearts appearances this campaign, wearing the captain's armband proudly for his side.

The Championship side would face stiff competition from the likes of Rangers, who are rumoured to be interested in the 6 foot 1 striker, but Sunderland should attempt to ambitiously hijack a move to Ibrox to tempt Shankland to play English football instead.

Clement could replace Sima with Rangers academy star who Danilo would love

Glasgow Rangers have been in formidable form under Philippe Clement since he took charge in mid-October, winning six and drawing two of his first eight matches in charge, thus heralding a new era at the club.

It has been a remarkable turnaround, especially from where the Gers were just a few weeks ago under Michael Beale, and the Belgian will be hoping to salvage something from a season which looked all but over last month.

With a League Cup final to look forward to, plus the chance of securing European football beyond Christmas, there is no doubt the incentives are there for the players. The question now is, can they take them?

The results have been good, and the performances have also been a lot better under Clement than what they were under the previous regime and, over time, his style of play will rub off on the players.

Glasgow Rangers managerPhilippe Clement.

Another key aspect during the early stages of the Belgian’s reign is the fact he does not shy away from utilising youth talent.

Ross McCausland has forced his way into the senior side of late and has even been rewarded with a new and improved contract.

The Northern Irishman won't be the last to make a breakthrough under the former Club Brugge boss, especially when there are talents such as Zak Lovelace showing maturity way beyond his tender years.

Zak Lovelace’s youth statistics

The 17-year-old first came to prominence during his spell at Millwall and became their second youngest player ever when he emerged from the bench against Coventry back in 2021 aged just 15, and he went on to make another four appearances for the side.

This clearly impressed Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who swooped in and brought him to Ibrox last summer, and it is already looking like a wonderful piece of business.

Rangers forward Zak Lovelace.

He was praised by former sporting director Ross Wilson on his arrival, who said: “We are delighted to welcome Zak to Rangers. He is an exciting young player and one we are sure will progress here.

“He has developed really well with the staff at Millwall and we can see lots of potential in him.”

This potential has seen the teenager make four appearances for the senior side having impressed for the B team. A return of 19 goals and ten assists across 38 academy matches is enough for any manager to sit up and take notice and Beale even gave him a cameo in the final Old Firm clash of last season.

He was given his first start for the club in October and, while the youngster was taken off due to injury, it was a promising display which showed plenty of grit and heart.

Clement could perhaps utilise him when he recovers from the hamstring injury sustained against St Mirren, especially with Abdallah Sima only on a loan deal.

Abdallah Sima’s season in numbers

The temporary signing of the Senegalese winger was certainly one of the better summer signings Beale managed to pull off, and it is a pity he will only be at Ibrox for one season.

According to Football Insider, however, the Light Blues are exploring a potential permanent move for the youngster in the coming weeks – although they face stiff competition from a host of clubs.

The report states that there are some unnamed European clubs after his signature too and, despite his promising start, the Gers could miss out on him.

In 23 matches this season, the 22-year-old has scored nine goals while grabbing an assist and has certainly made the left-wing spot his own.

The winger even ranks second across the whole squad for goals and assists in the Premiership (six) while also ranking third for shots per game (2.8) and second for successful dribbles per match (1.8), clearly proving to be one of the finest attacking players in the current first team.

Clement must avoid Rangers swoop for £9m-rated "wizard", he'd be Boyd 2.0

Clement must avoid making a mistake in the transfer window

ByRoss Kilvington Nov 24, 2023

His pace and eye for goal have been big assets for the Gers so far, and they will be missed should a permanent deal not be struck with Brighton.

In Lovelace, however, Clement has a youngster who could not only take over from Sima in the long term, but also work well with the current players in the squad – with Danilo one asset who would simply love him.

Lovelace and Danilo could be deadly

The Brazilian striker cost the club a staggering £6m when joining from Feyenoord in the summer, and a player worth that much, especially in Scotland, needs to hit the ground running.

He did manage to score twice during his first five matches for the club, yet he started only three of these and there were question marks surrounding whether Beale knew how to utilise him properly.

The striker had scored 14 goals during the 2022/23 season for the Dutch side and clearly had a keen eye for goal, yet the former QPR manager failed to really give him a proper chance in the starting XI.

This has changed under Clement, however, with Danilo starting four of his eight matches in charge and this number surely would have been higher had he not been recovering from a fractured cheekbone when the Belgian took over.

The 49-year-old has clearly restored some confidence in Danilo as the forward has scored three goals and grabbed four assists, indicating that he is enjoying his football a lot more now.

Danilo

Lovelace would be a wonderful partner for him on the left wing, using his pace and creativity to get into dangerous areas, from which he could supply Danilo with countless chances during matches.

Of course, the 17-year-old still has plenty to learn and is developing all the time, but he could be a wonderful asset for Clement to have in the first-team squad.

Danilo has shown how quickly he has adapted to a suitable style of play and Lovelace would also thrive under the Belgian, as his tactical system gives his attacking players the freedom that Beale didn’t afford his players during his dismal reign.

While the club won't see the former Millwall starlet for another couple of months, he is a player who could save Clement some money, especially if Sima has to return to his parent club at the end of his loan spell.

SA coach Gibson not worried about Amla's dip in form

Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram weren’t particularly productive in their last Test series in Sri Lanka, but home comforts should remedy that

Ahead of what is expected to be a tough home series against Pakistan, South Africa coach Ottis Gibson has insisted he has no concerns regarding the form of his top order.Hashim Amla, Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram averaged below 15 during South Africa’s last Test series, in Sri Lanka, but Gibson said the difference in conditions between playing at home and playing in the subcontinent meant those disappointing returns in July are irrelevant.”There is no concern with regards to them,” said Gibson. “What happened in Sri Lanka has no relevance here even though Pakistan may choose spinners. Here in South Africa‚ wickets don’t spin as much as they do in Sri Lanka.””Aiden scored 1000 runs last year and he is back in familiar home conditions. With regards to Dean‚ he is an absolute street fighter. He is always close to hitting a double-hundred and that is fantastic.ALSO READ: ‘We now bat better outside of UAE than in UAE’ says Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur”Coming to Hash [Amla]‚ he has been carrying niggles that have not allowed him to do the things that he wanted to do. For him, it is to get back to the nets and work on the things that he needs to work on‚ but he is an experienced player for us. He has had dips in form but he knows what he needs to do. I have spoken to him since I arrived in the country on Wednesday night and he will be desperate to get back into action. I have no concerns about them.”There is also batting depth in South Africa’s squad for the first Test with 23-year-old Cape Cobras batsman Zubayr Hamza in line to make his Test debut at Centurion if Theunis de Bruyn does not recover in time from a back injury he picked up during the Mzansi Super League.”The ideal scenario is to have a settled batting lineup with the top five knowing exactly where they stand‚” Gibson said. “Theunis [De Bruyn] scored a hundred in his last game and he is the man in possession at the moment. But we will have to see how he manages his injury situation in the next couple of days. If he does not come through‚ there is a strong possibility Hamza will play.”
